Yeah, I was surprised too, and then reading the article, very, very saddened, because I recognized much of what was said was true, and I knew many cases of women who fit. As the article says, the biggest reason the USA made it on the list was that it ranked third, THIRD!, in places where women were most at risk of sexual violence, harassment and being coerced into sex.

So much for those xxx_hole countries south of the border, right?

Yet we will endlessly be told that America is the greatest country, the most prosperous country, the freest country, the country with the best healthcare...

OP, all this poll tells you is where there is an enormous lack of education and perception bias at work.

There are a litany of countries where women have no rights and are essentially family property until marriage and then that guys property.

I actually feel sorry for people that think that the USA is the 3rd worst place as described on this planet.

It appears to be an excuse for someone to bash the US under the guise of “sadness”.

Aspirational goals are a wonderful thing. Miss America pageant contestants always say that they want "World Peace". We all want word peace. We all want violence and discrimination to end. But writing this aspirational goal - supposedly put out by world leaders (What world leaders? Who? How many?) - (Why 2030? Why not 2025 or 2035?) - (What's the plan? How do un-named world leaders plan to eliminate all forms of violence and discrimination against women and girls? How will they coordinate a world wide effort? Define it? Finance it? Staff it? Track it? Record it? Maintain it?).


Do you see the problem here?



I'm not saying that we don't have a violence and discrimination problem against women across the globe and even in the United States. We can continue as a nation (as we have for decades and centuries) to work towards a more perfect union for all American citizens of both genders and all races. We all want that.



I posted a quote from your link previously in this thread (ref: the limited number of participants in the poll and the potential agenda bias of many of those participants). Your link above and its aspirational goals are all well and good. But just take it for what it is. Don't make more OUT of it than it is.

Only if you don't know the history of women's suffering in the u.s. and can't track it yourself. Because if a person can not do that, then they can not make a comparison determination. As for as the leaders are concern, that is well and all that, we all know the best leaders will lead by example. However, people in these countries have brains too. And until the relationship between men and women change, beyond that of whatever their leadership is, there will be no change. (know thyself)


btw: it did change, the women in the u.s. found their voice, which I don't think they had even during the suffrage movement. Some things were just not proper to talk about in mixed company. It is a man's world; it always has been.
