Why punish Americans when most emissions come from India and China? It's like these politicians want to kill industry in the US and move it overseass. How about carbon tariffs instead?

IMO, cap and trade should be given another chance. It is the best idea on how to apply government regulation to ever come out of the conservative think tanks.

So good it is that the Democrats co-opted it as their path to cleaner energy during the Obama Administration.

So good it is that conservatives sunk it to prevent a guaranteed victory for said administration.

Horribly destructive policy. It hurts the working poor, and middle income earner living paycheck to paycheck the most. Gasoline, home heating, Electricity, all Energy, and all products and services will become vastly more expensive as this tax takes effect, then ratchets up each year. All to create another SLUSH FUND for the politicians of both parties to use to BUY VOTES.

They want to keep as many people as poor as possible and therefore dependent on whatever Uncle Sugar will "give" them. It's their means of control.

Uncle Sugar = US Fed Gov

Not really, 53% of UK Energy is now low carbon, and renewables are often cheaper than traditional fossil fuels. The US has vast cheap renewable energy souces it can tap in to,and I have no doubt the US will follow other nations in making this sensible move.

Wind and Solar need a 1 for 1 back up with reliable energy like fossil fuel, nuke, or hydro as sometimes the wind doesn't blow and the sun doesn't shine. We need 100% reliable power. Also wind and solar are considerably more expensive in the U.S. I can't speak for Europe, but I know France has gone NUKE because of that.

Fossil Fuels run the world, and will continue to do so. We have centuries of supply just in the U.S. and finding more all the time.

So, if you want to put a big anchor on your society and economy, just add yet more TAXES on Energy, and every product and service available.

We may have centuries of supply, but not centuries of time. You may want to burn yourself to Hell, but I don't want to come with you. That's why I give clean energy the benefit of the doubt.

Also, there are efficiency issues with fossil fuels. Smart people have figured out how to deal with many of them. The same is happening with clean energy.
