I think the main reason is because many people don't want change..
Los Angeles is a perfect example. L.A. would benefit from more rail and more density as more people would live closer to their job and drive less thus causing less emissions.
People DO vote for L.A. to change it's ways. I have. I support more public transit as many others do.
Older generations don't want that. They still see L.A. as a giant suburb and don't want it to change because we're changing the character of the neighborhoods. And it's complicated because I see gentrification as a double edged sword. But I do see the benefit in changing how L.A. operates as a city. The same people who vote to keep it the same are the same that complain about the problems caused by L.A. staying the same.
So this is what's happening. People do want these changes that you suggest but greed often gets in the way. Your right, but you don't see that the refusal to change pushes back because old money doesn't wanna move to the side or retire..
And, if they won't vote for change, you'll make them change by taking action, right?
I can see the global warmers walking the streets carrying signs" We are doomed in 18 months, repent.
Those are the dim bulb global warmers. The smart ones are the ones who make baseless predictions 40 or even 100 years out that suggest projected theories suggest our doom is going to happen and we need to pay the rich now to prevent it. They make their money and we'll never know if they were right or just con artists. They'll be dead, we'll be dead , their grandkids will be richer, our grandkids will be poorer.

According to the experts, the end was coming in 2000 and 2012,etc.
I'm in my early 60's and have heard the end of the world is coming in the next few years due to climate since I was about 20 years of age....so far, none of their claims have borne any fruit as far as I see. Even if their theories turn out to be correct, the world has shown no inclination to change.
Why aren’t alarmist talking about population control?
NOTHING would make more of a difference in CO2, ozone, pollutants, etc than reducing human populations......
I agree. Which is why I believe abortion is a necessary evil.
Most of the new public transit systems lose money every year. The public won't use them because they don't like them.
Multiple options for getting around is a good thing for a city.
L.A. is a prime example of a city that relied solely on roads for decades after destroying the red cars. Now its the but of every traffic joke and our transit system is playing catch-up.
The issue with riding it is safety and it isn’t that public transit is inherently bad but our city is handling our homeless problem very poorly. So the safety issue is a symptom of a great problem with our city.
Id love to take a train to my job, rather than bring stuck going 2mph on the freeway. Especially heading home. Makes me wanna punch a baby..
