Actually, Trump is highlighting how little Elijah Cummings has done for the district that elected him, and how he continues to exploit his Congressional chair for purposes of his own self-aggrandizement at the expense of his constituents.

Now, the problems plaguing Baltimore are not necessarily any worse by great degrees than those afflicting other Democrat-run cities (rampant crime, drug abuse and trafficking, homelessness, economic decay and abject urban squalor, issues all endemic to areas run by Democrats), but I think we can all agree that Baltimore has more than its share of problems.

Mr. Cummings has been notably absent in resolving those problems, to a point bordering on dereliction of duty. The President noticed this nonfeasance on the the part of Mr. Cummings, and gently called it to Mr. Cummings' attention via Twitter.

Mr. Cummings, rather than graciously accept the constructive criticism he so well deserved, whipped out a threadbare race card that expired in 1971 and started sniveling about how the President was a racist, when in truth and fact it is he, Elijah Cummings, and his neglect of his district that are at the root of his district's problems.

Trump could do the same thing with Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX). She likes to whine about racism and having been a slave herself and all. In the interim, of course, there are parts of the 18th Congressional District of Texas, represented by Ms. Lee, that make the seediest, most squalid sections of Baltimore look like the Garden of Eden.

I think Sheila could use some Presidential Twitter therapy also.

oh and if this turns into Trump trying to 'fix' urban community issues.......thank goodness for the public outcry...and outrage at his attack.

Because that's the only thing that has motivated this spin.

Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump
Rep, Elijah Cummings has been a brutal bully, shouting and screaming at the great men & women of Border Patrol about conditions at the Southern Border, when actually his Baltimore district is FAR WORSE and more dangerous. His district is considered the Worst in the USA......

I don't like the term "whataboutism" but it seems to me that's what you are trying to do here by suggesting "But what about the 3 out of the 50 cities that are rat infested and not run by democrats?"

Democrat-run cities are in decline and have been for some time. It's not racist to point that out, even if the worst areas are predominantly black areas. The problem is either the behaviors of people who live there, or the inaction of pols, or both.

Too bad about Baltimore.
Once again. My point is not about Baltimore. All cities and even smaller towns in our country have areas that are not livable. You want to ignore the fact that the words our President continues to use to describe minority areas is different from the ones he uses foer non minorities ones.

You might not think this is a problem, but trust me most minorities and those that are white supremacist see that very clearly.

This is not about just Baltimore. They just happened to be the last one that he has tweeted on. There will be others.

Actually you aren't good at following chain of events. Cummings didn't whip out the race card......folks who read Trump's public tweet did. Cummings may have eventually responded but it was social media that got outraged first. Can you provide the tweet/post/statement that Cummings chose to bring out the race card. You might want to go and read the numerous tweets Cummings has presented. Few address race.

Trump should do the same thing with himself. He did nothing for his city on a community level except criticize.

And he has been in office for over two years ...and has done nothing for any of these communities.

So please -- stop with your spin.

The President of the United States of America demeaned and denigrated American citizens and their families because they are represented by Cummings, who has the courage to do his job of oversight of Trump.

The President of the United States of America insulted the United States city of Baltimore, because it is represented by Congressman Elijah E. Cummings, the chairman of the House Oversight and Reform Committee.

The President of the United States of America defamed and belittled the Maryland district that Rep. Elijah E. Cummings represents as a “disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess.”

The President of the United States of America launched an attack on Cummings that is evocative of his recent racist attacks on the four minority congresswomen who he said should “go back” to the "crime infested places" they were originally from.

The President of the United States of America has derided and taunted civil rights icon Congressman John Lewis by frequently utilizing the phrase "crime infested" to describe the Atlanta Georgia district he represents.

The President of the United States of America has once again used the word "infested" to target selected cities with large populations of African Americans and brown skinned minorities; to, yet again, single out specific lawmakers of color and use them and the communities and districts and the Americans they represent as tools and as a tactic. There are myriad examples of this president's use of that slur and taunt and they are intentionally directed toward communities of minorities and color.

This is wrong! This is scurrilous! This is hateful, ugly and intentionally divisive! There is absolutely NO excuse, NO rationale , NO argument to defend this amoral un-American and un-qualified president! NONE!

Trump is using an even more blunt and overt racism for this campaign than his strategy in 2016. He has decided to pit Americans against Americans. He is using his unabashed bigotry to rally his supporters and their votes by stirring fear and hate and prejudice. There is NO middle ground! This is WRONG! Period!

Trump has a history of using the term "infested" and associating it with only black and brown things.

Per usual we have a scenario taken too far left and then too far right -There is a better way to call out poor leadership which appears to be the case in Baltimore. The District is 53% black 36% white- but what is the socioeconomic background working here?

Could we call this a class issue? Of course take it a step further and Review failed policies here (and other places). Is this just a racist comment with no progress or change to impact the obvious failings going on

Seriously -- you want to see how an adult reacts to childish attacks, go to Cummings tweeter feed and see his response.

That's an adult for you.
