That's exactly what the alarmists do. They cite alleged warming patterns in just those kinds of places when skeptics or deniers point out that densely populated, advanced areas such as New York City or Chicago have amazingly stable conditions over a long period of time.
Um...you keep saying that, but most major cities in the US have been warming. Chicago is maybe a bit of an exception, but New York and LA have definitely been warming.

Not New York. The thirty-year moving averages haven't budged. We had a clump of insanely hot summers from 2010-2013, mimicking closely 1952-5 and 1957. This one and last summer were rather cool. The winter of 2013-4 and 2015-6 were insanely cold, as was the end-year and start-year 2017-8 but otherwise unexceptionable. All that I want is equal hysteria for the Minnesota chill and the Alaska heat.
We haven't broken any heat records so far In Pa, I hope we don't break any record lows. I like an average summer without too much heat or cool. Rain we've had plenty of. Although now we've dried out a bit. Right now we're looking at mid to upper 80s for the next week at least. Perfect.
AUSTIN, Texas -- We thank Tuesday's rare late-July cold front for a pleasant change in the weather, even if only temporary, which include some of the coldest temperatures ever seen in Austin in the month of July.
With a low of 58 reported at 5:59 a.m. Wednesday morning, the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport official thermometer blew away the old all-time monthly low of 60 from 2013, making it the coldest July morning since World War II in parts of the Capital City. The July 25th daily record low of 67 (from 2000) was also shattered.
In the metro, Camp Mabry's official thermometer hit 63 which busted the previous daily record of 65 from 1924.

Why wouldn't a growing city/airport experience warming?
More heat sinks (concrete, buildings, etc.) means warmer temperatures in the surrounding areas.
Oddly enough, that's where most weather stations are located (universities, airports, and the like).
