That was and still is typical Democrat thought and trash talk.
Ever hear some of the Racist sht the Clintons, the Kennedy's, Biden used to say ? Democrat LBJ was the worst.
Uh, no. Reagan changed parties well before he ran for governor in 1966, on a platform that promised to get rid of anti-discrimination housing laws in CA. He also was on record for opposing the 1964 Civil Rights Act and 1965 Voting Rights Act.
Partisans of both parties are basically myopic dupes.
They gleefully point out the problems with the other side, but are remarkably blind to the failings of their own.
I mean, right now, Republicans are defending Trump tooth-and-nail for statements that, if Obama or Clinton had said it, they would have formed a lynch mob on the Ellipse.
1971........really. I am so tired of hearing about the snowflake melting things said by historic figures in the days long before political correctness being made issue of today. 1971 was 48 years ago. Reagan was elected nearly 40 years ago. You millennials should stay out of the 20tg century, you wouldn’t like it much there. Too much free speech, to much capitalism and it was way to white
I know what you mean! I miss being able to say what you're thinking without the PC police crying about it!!
Republican hero calls Africans "Monkeys not used to wearing shoes"
Handwriting was on the wall:
Reagan opposed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, opposed the Voting Rights Act of 1965 (calling it "humiliating to the South"), and ran for governor of California in 1966 promising to wipe the Fair Housing Act off the books. "If an individual wants to discriminate against Negroes or others in selling or renting his house," he said, "he has a right to do so." After the Republican convention in 1980, Reagan travelled to the county fair in Neshoba, Mississippi, where, in 1964, three Freedom Riders had been slain by the Ku Klux Klan. Before an all-white crowd of tens of thousands, Reagan declared: "I believe in states' rights".
As president, Reagan aligned his justice department on the side of segregation, supporting the fundamentalist Bob Jones University in its case seeking federal funds for institutions that discriminate on the basis of race. In 1983, when the supreme court decided against Bob Jones, Reagan, under fire from his right in the aftermath, gutted the Civil Rights Commission.
We know more about Nixon's presidency, because he recorded so many conversations.
The fact is many presidents, unfortunately used this kind of racist language - we just have less of it, because they didn't record everything and then hand it over.
Democrats JFK, LBJ, and Bill Clinton had some racist comments too.
