Trump tried to work with our drug manufacturers and got nowhere quickly.

This is another option, and I hope it works.

I live in a 'border town'. We see Canadian medical tourists coming down to the states to get specialist medical treatment that they can not get up in Canada, and we see Americans going up into Canada to buy their cheaper drugs.

It is a two way flow of traffic.

The difference is that technically Americans going up into Canada to buy cheaper drugs is a crime. Canadians coming into the US for medical treatment is not.

We've done something similar AND yes.. we were desperate; my infants needed it to survive.

The sad news was when they finally improved health wise, we had about 6 months supply left over. We posted about it and got dozens of other desperate parents asking to buy the remaining supply from us. One fellow drove 200 miles to us to pick it up... felt bad for him so I offered to give it to him for free. He insisted anyways for our trouble.

Freakin sad that is the state of things in the US. US has damn good medical technology and services; if you have money.

Burdened by skyrocketing health care costs, consumers, employers, and insurers are looking for ways to save, and one of the most obvious targets is drug costs. Because Canada and most other industrialized nations impose price restrictions and limit what pharmacies can charge for drugs, the cost of a brand-name medication sold in Toronto can be as much as 55% less than what the identical drug is sold for just across Lake Ontario in Rochester, N.Y.

While the practice of reimporting drugs from Canada, Mexico, or other countries is still technically illegal

Why are people surprised when Trump keeps his promises? Trump has always said it was unfair that Americans subsidize foreign countries' drugs. BigPharma doesn't own Trump like they do career politicians in Congress, both Repubs and Dems.

Trump wants competition between generics and brand names and quicker approval of generics. Some prices have come down and it's also easier now for terminally ill people to have access to experimental drugs. If you ignore fake news censorship and watch the original events on the White House youtube channel, you'd know this already like the Deplorables do. That's why we are happier and calmer than the Loony Leftists screaming at the sky.

I've bought my meds from In House Pharmacy in Vanuatu for years. Brand names and generics. Great prices, free shipping. 800 number you can call and talk to someone who speaks English -- with an Australian accent.

If you want more info, PM me.

So many Canadians are in need of cancer treatment, when I go in for my radiation treatments the waiting rooms are about half filled with medical tourists.

I dont mind, so long as they do not overwhelm and cancer center completely.

But somehow they do need to get a medical treatment system going up in Canada to handle all of those Canadians.

Why is Trump trying to allow import of drugs from Canada?

Well, because like all sociopaths/megalomaniacs in the realm of politics he doesn't believe in freedom of movement, freedom of association, and the free market. If he did, he wouldn't have a single point of interest in such matters.

Ok, back to the fake argument going on in the thread. I'm just answering for style points at this juncture.

This isn't rocket science nor does it involved even 1% of his promise for "better cheaper health care for all".

My family (and millions of others) already import stuff from Canada. It's not cheap, but it does cost less. Also,, the firms are honestly somewhat sketchy. Lots of profits being made on the far end.

Wouldn't it be better to have American manufactured drugs sold by American companies?

Heck, even the Pot industry took almost no time to have almost unlimited supply once our system allowed them.....

Taking biz away from an entire supply chain and awarding it to another country seems like a band-aid. The whole reason that people going to Canada has made the news is that they SHOULDN'T HAVE TO DO THAT.

https://thehill.com/policy/healthcar...r-prescription

There are actually safety concerns....we contacted some of the big pharmacies and they are definitely sketchy outfits. I think it is a Gold Mine for certain Canadians and obviously attracting anyone and everyone on that end.
Wow, are you a spokesman for the pharmaceutical industry?

Seriously, I am not kidding, I know you do not like Trump but this is actually something he is doing that is good for all Americans, whether Conservative, Moderate or Liberal. Its not a Democrat or Republican issue.

Drug prices have been skyrocketing up tremendously, in the last year alone, they went up on average FIVE TIMES THE RATE OF INFLATION. Pharmaceutical companies can do this in the United States because they have almost no competition, and they are buying politicians in BOTH PARTIES in Congress to stop any possible reform of the situation.

In contrast, major Western nations like France and Canada negotiate and set maximum prices for drugs, they do not allow pharmaceuticals to extort money from the public like they do here in the corporate controlled United States.

This is a good thing that Trump is doing, he is letting people buy life saving medicine from Canada. I can easily see a liberal like Bernie or Warren trying to do something similar.

The largest purchaser of Prescription drugs in the USA are the Federal Health services - Medicare, Medicaid and the VA ..... none of which are allowed to Negotiate prices. That was the Back Room deal that Obama cut with Big Pharma for ObamaCare.

And then there is the Generic Price Fixing that the Major Pharma people are actively doing.

They are a corrupt bunch and spend many Billions every year for the beneficial Laws that protect their profits. I might remind folks that the President of the USA can't pass Law, he has to rely of the do-nothing CongressCritters (who are paid off by Pharma) to pass LAW. He can issue some regulations .... like regulations to make it safe to purchase Pharma from Canada.
By law, VA can and does negotiate drug prices.

By law, states can negotiate drug prices.

In contrast, The Medicare Modernization Act of 2003 established Medicare Part D and specifically prevented Health and Human Services from interfering / negotiating and buying from other countries.

Pharma is one of the largest lobbies at both the Federal and state level.

Some may recall the ad campaign that precipitated this, attempting to persuade the public that foreign medications were not worthy of trust.

Those legislators who advocated for the exclusion publicly rationalized their support by saying the private sector / insurance and their contracted benefit managers could do a better job that the Federal Government.

Some legislators went with the flow to be able to claim Medicare Part D as an accomplishment.
