Completely different perspective here.

The folks I know that own a gun are proud of their gun ownerhsip, including the women.

And of course they would answer positively to the question do you own a gun -- because it affirms the gun ownership is a right notion.

Why would someone 'hide' they own a gun?

Now I live in the southeast and there is no shame in owning a gun.....maybe in some more liberal states it is something they wouldn't admit to - but I doubt it.

Ladies’ Night is open to any females and the range lets them rent guns for free and reserve lanes for half price. Our shooting range here bends over backwards for women, especially first-time shooters. They are patient and knowledgeable and can turn any interested first timer into an experienced marksman with time and practice.
I thought Ladies Night was Monday there.

My mistake. Head said Monday, fingers said Tuesday.

Any idea who did the survey?
Any idea of the sample characteristic -- size, location, criteria for choosing?

I suspect female gun ownership is about 20-25% -- and the number falls in that -- but just wondering how the numbers we are debating and using to dispute or support arguments was derived.

Honestly moneill, why should anyone in this thread take the time to offer you any genuine response? You played your cards early on in this thread. Your dismissive condescension came across loud and clear. Why bother interjecting any further? We know how you feel.

The only big deal about more women buying guns is more sales, and money being made.

She has a bolt that she first learned gun safety and proper handling with, she has an AR, and she now has a handgun. She’s pretty damned good with all of them, is responsible for the care of them, and can knock the nuts off a squirrel at 100 yards.

I taught everyone I broke in the same way my Dad did me. The purpose of shooting is hitting. Speed will come with time. Control the adrenaline and make it work for you. Not against you. So many new shooters get wound up and shaking like a dog shi**ing peach seeds worrying about how they will perform. DON"T do dat!!!
Precisely!

I recall the acronym we were taught when going to the rifle range: BRASS

Breathe out
Relax
Aim
Sight picture
Squeeze the trigger

We did a whole lot of dry firing to get accustomed to where the trigger would "break." If your M16a1 was sighted in well, you could put 10 out of 10 in the black at 500 yards, and that was with open sights.
