Is the some historical inflection point that can possibly explain the WHY of this particular cultural issue?

I mean, slavery ended 156 years ago, so that legacy alone cannot explain what shifted from the very family oriented black demographic to this new single mother, absentee father, children raised on the street phenomenon. What could have possibly happened in the last oh...70 years that could give us a clue as to why the all black Harlem city schools went from 2nd best in the 5 Burroughs to among the worst as of today.

What was the pox, pray tell, that fell upon the black demographic's house, such that it actually resembles a plague virus? Hmm...what could it be...?
Curious, how do blacks fare in other parts of the world, e.g. Africa, Caribbean, Europe, S. America. Is their condition here unique to here? Any input? This info might help us narrow down the root cause(s) of black poverty in the USA.

Well what happened 40-50 years ago...

Tougher prosecution of drugs... longer sentences.. targeting poorer communities. Black and brown communities!

Young black men get arrested more often then young white men for the same crime.
Young black men get sentenced more often the young white men for the same crime.
Young black men get longer jail sentences then young white men for the same crime.

For what... it started with a majority of Non-Violent Drug offenses.

Is this just coincidence? Or does it create a vicious cycle of broken up families, with lower incomes and opportunities for their children?

Why is it that most 1st generational African immigrants do better and create more wealth then African-Americans?
Why is it that most 1st generational Asian immigrants do better and create more wealth then African-Americans?

You take the simple road of just calling all the descendants for slaves as lazy, low IQ, welfare leachers...

250 years of slavery, 100 years of Jim Crow.. then suddenly just collapse after they have fought for their rights for decades, then end up on welfare with broken families, and a majority of black men in prison?

Or, is there something that stops them for being as successful as newly immigrated Africans?

It was not welfare... it was instituted Racist crime bills that either knowingly or fantastically unknowingly ending up targeting poor urban black areas. And almost destroying two generations of black families in the process.

Then you look at this mess... and just call them lazy for not working harder, because you dont see any racism going on.

Translation: Young black men get arrested at a higher rate for committing crimes at a higher rate.

I will carefully agree with you that the Black Community needs to do their part to fix the problem.

I will respectfully state that "not as bad as it used to be" is not a very good benchmark.

I guess the point is that there needs to be change from both sides of the issue. In almost all cases, both sides refuse to see their own role in the problem.

The black community wants to blame racism for their problems, and the racists (which sadly includes our POTUS and his base) want to blame the black community for their problems.

I'll meet you half way and say that it ain't getting fixed until EVERYONE makes significant progress. I won't blame it squarely on either side, but will agree that until both sides of the debate make substantial change, it won't get better.

That said, I see it as a bigger problem that our POTUS and about half the government deny there is a problem, and while I don't condone inaction from the black community (there is action and inaction, btw), I can understand their resentment, when they face the problems they do, only to be mocked, told they are lying and have those exact problems doubled down in their face.

From that resentment, I would have to assume, spawns a hopelessness that "doing the right thing" will get a different result this time.

Evolution. American blacks have the same disadvantage that African blacks have. Europeans were 2,000 years more advanced than Africans in 1600. Expecting such a gap to be closed with a couple of social programs and apologies is absurd.

40 years ago, the Black poverty rate was 41%. Today, itís 29%. I donít think the marriage rate has as big of an impact as you think.

No. In fact it's a major predictor of poor per capita wealth.
