It creates a false premise, that is then reinforced with this belief that generally leftist believes the flag is racist. Because there is a push to remove Confederate Battle Flags because they represent a racist agenda, this gets carried over onto the American Flag. Maybe due to instances of extreme leftists actually taking it to that extreme, now it is all leftists.
So then the predictable circle jerk feedback loop of both sides develops. Like in every political topic since forever.

I don't think I ever remember a Presidential debate where there weren't American flags. Then again, ONLY the modern Democrat Party calls the Betsy Ross Flag, one of the first American flags, Racist.
