Most people's health insurance absolutely sucks right now. High premiums and even higher deductibles. We need to get the profiteering out of health care.
With a $trillion dollar price tag do you actually think you are going to see a lower premium, (medicare has a monthly premium now, $134 a month) or lower deductibles (medicare has a yearly deductible of $185) and don't forget that medicare right now only pays about 80% of cost. And most drugs have a co-pay.
Are you willing to trade your private health care plan for a government plan? I cannot think of a single thing the government has ever done in the past 50 years that hasn't cost more than original estimated.
Unfortunately, I don't see there ever being one. As a dual citizen who has lived in several countries and travelled in many, I've never heard anyone who would trade their system for that of the US.
If anything, most really feel for the Americans, who live in mortal terror of losing their jobs or die early, watch their children suffer, lose their homes, and have to resort to begging on GoFundMe, all for something that the rest of us around the developed world take for granted as a basic human right.
But the US knows nothing else, and change is scary to people, even if the change is a positive one. That's why many people stay in abusive relationships, or why lottery winners subconsciously rush to go back to being broke again.

False premise...There were about the same number before the ACA...there is no reason they can not get on a state programs or in fact a lot of those don't want HC for one reason or the other.
Lol. Here's the new plan--get your prescription drugs from Canada because the US doesn't have the spine to put price controls on drugs here because the Swamp Monsters in Congress take too much money from the pharmaceutical companies to stand up to them.
It sounds like Trump, et. al., are too cowardly to really stand up to lobbyists for Big Pharma (and their Big Money donors) and fight them.
So Trump naively states he's going to allow importing drugs from Canada, as he hasn't a clue how the process or government works or the regulatory hurdles involved with medicine. It would take years, and again...the lobbyists and Big Pharma.
Canada is not necessarily going to go along with that. First priority in Canada should be Canadians. If there's a demonstrable surplus of certain drugs, then maybe an arrangement can be worked out.
But in general, as much as most Canadians feel sympathy for suffering Americans, it's not Canada's problem that the US is too greedy and short-sighted to actually get out of bed with pharma lobbyists and do what's right for their own people.
A real shame the Democrats screwed up their healthcare plan (Obamacare) they all supported. It was on life support when Obama was President. Now we have to come up with one with cost controls (Obamacare didn't have any lol) Might be decades until anyone listens to them again.

One interview stands out - a dying man defending his anti-Medicaid expansion stance: "It might hurt us but at least our tax dollars aren’t going to Mexicans and welfare queens."

I think the ACA was meant to be the first step towards a better plan. Republicans made sure there would be no public option in the ACA and they fought the medicaid expansion. We can argue about the merits and failings of the ACA, but the point remains: the Trump admin has proposed no alternative, and instead of trying to fix what's wrong with the ACA, their only aim is to destroy it.
Didn't he promise us something better than Obamacare. It's been 2.5 years, now. Did I miss the plan?
It's important to understand that Trump supporters are in such great health, they don't mind there is no Trump health plan. Who needs health care? Trump seems so healthy, he doesn't need it. In turn, neither do Trump's voters.
