At first I thought the titled of this thread was: Trump: A Disgrace to Our Country

Lol. I nodded my head, clicked through and then realised I had read it wrong

Neither WV or Miss has been controlled by Republicans for long and it is interesting how people on the left always point to those two states, more rural than other states like Texas, Florida, NC, etc.

Trump's clearly talking about the bad aspects of California cities, the filthy streets and huge number of homeless people.

Liberals try to brush this off by talking about....rich people in California. So a lot of rich people in California means there's no poor people and other problems.
Well, I did a search just now.

"Mississippi has not voted Democratic since 1976. Since that time, Republicans have dominated the state's political elections, and so Trump was widely expected to win the election."

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016...in_Mississippi

"Aside from 1964, California was a reliably Republican state in every presidential election until 1992, when it was carried by Bill Clinton. The state has voted Democrat in every presidential election since 1992, usually by lopsided margins."

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Politics_of_California

" West Virginia was once a solidly Democratic state; it voted Democratic in every election from 1932 to 1996, except for the Republican landslides of 1956, 1972, and 1984. However, in recent years it has drifted to becoming solidly Republican, and has stayed that way since it was won by George W. Bush in 2000."

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016..._West_Virginia

Mississippi has been Republican for a while longer than California Democratic, and West Virginia changed to Republican not that much longer after California switched.

And we can go further.

Mississippi's first major brush with voting Republican took place in 1964. Mississippi voted for Goldwater in 1964, along with Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina. Arizona too, albeit barely. California voted Democrat in 1964, for Johnson. Carter was literally the only Democrat who won Mississippi between 1960 and now. Mississippi would have been a solid Republican state from 1964 until 1976 if not for one person: George Wallace. He wasn't a Democrat. He ran for the American Independent Party after the Democratic Party basically disowned him.

Another thing to really examine is the political culture in California vs Mississippi. Not just today, but going back decades ago.

Envy of the third world? Perhaps. California has 1/12 of the US population, but has 1/3 of the US population below the poverty level.

Republicans did not take control of all 3 branches of Miss's state government until 2012.
https://ballotpedia.org/Party_contro...ate_government

That was probably the first time Republicans controlled all 3 branches of Miss's state government.

Does anybody believe Miss is worse today than it was when Democrats controlled the state government.

the reason California is overwhelmingly Democrat today is poor legal and illegal immigrants flooding in.

this is why liberals love open borders so much...they want to transform the electorate to Californicate the entire country so Democrats are a Forever Party.

Well, going by your link, Dems had full control (Gov, House, Senate) for four total years, Republicans have had total control for six total years (a streak that continues to this day), so they’ve had control longer and if things had vastly improved, we probably wouldn’t be having this conversation.
