There won't be any protests. This is the "new normal". Americans see mass shootings as the price people are willing to pay for "freedom" and for the protection of the 2nd amendment.
I disagree....this was a major attack upon a protected group (Hispanics). Immigration has been a hot issue, this is a direct attack upon a leftist darling cause (immigrant rights). The left will react swiftly with rage. Gun control cries will be secondary to the issue of immigration and so called white nationalism. Trump will be the focus of the rage. This shooting is different, it’s political at its core. Political violence is becoming common in America on both sides. Riots, race disturbances, post election riots, demonstrations, politically motivated shootings etc all have happened in the past 5 or 6 years. We are on a dark path......it leads to civil war. We walked the same path as a nation in the 1850s and we found that destination. I’m afraid we will reach the same destination in the 2020s as we did in the 1860s if we don’t pull back. We will see how the leftists react to this violent attack that was really directed at them. Will they counter with violent demonstrations? The next few days will tell.
No we should not accept the shootings as the new normal. I will not accept however that freedoms must be surrendered because of this violent trend. We must double down on violent criminals, terrorists and remove the mentally ill from our streets.
This is the legacy of conservatives and their gun proliferation policies. Until we decide to collectively grow some balls, get some brains, and take some meaningful action against those failed policies, we will continue to be the country where this sort of mass domestic carnage is normal and expected. We already know what the status quo brings.
Of course, we're also the county that doesn't really care much when this happens to twenty small kids in a classroom, or fifty people at a music concert, so what's another 20 dead people and devastated families in El Paso? We've chosen to embrace this as our way of life. I am under no illusions that this will change anything.
I agree, nothing is going to change. If those babies at Sandy Hook couldn't move anyone to act, then nothing will change with this one either.
Very sad, seems like a daily occurrence now. Something really needs to be done about this.
Nothing will be, we are basically a 3rd world country that I used to hear about in the 80’s. All anyone can do is hope they aren’t in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Once Sandy Hook happened and it became bearable for Americans that little children in a school could be murdered, that ended the gun control debate.
Now had a Muslim done that from a terrorist organization, we would be at war with that country, since it’s a homegrown white kid, ohh well, move on to the next one.
El Paso Police Chief Greg Allen said the shooting “has a nexus to a hate crime.”
Officials said Crusius surrendered at the scene to approaching officers.
Authorities believe the 21-year-old posted a manifesto on the online forum 8chan, which listed “the Hispanic invasion of Texas” as one of the motivations for the attack.
Why would you answer my question... with a question? What do you propose should be done when you have a white nationalist who drives 600 miles to kill hispanics with his AK 47? What??
Boohoo... "White, heterosexual men are the most persecuted group in history"
Boohoo... "Christians are being persecuted in this country for not being able to follow their beliefs"
Boohoo... "Liberals hate Trump because he is a white 'Christian'"
Sounds like Identity Politics to me!
exactly.
