Texans take their killing seriously. As one famous Texan said. "We don't just hang people in Texas. We give em a trial and then we hang em."

I feel for you my friend. Leaving New York State was one of thee best decisions we ever could have made, and it was not just about guns and 2nd Amendment issues although it was indeed a major contributing factor.

Just having the freedom to not be governed by the insanity of these people was reason enough. All they've accomplished is making life miserable for those of us that are paying all the bills. The forgotten middle class.

New York's state and local governments are wholly owned subsidiaries of the public employee's and teacher's unions who have driven up the cost of living to astronomical levels thru excessive property taxes. I don't expect that to change anytime soon if ever. Political corruption is rampant and out of control in the "Vampire State". But I'm sure you're aware of all that. My wife calls it Liberalism run amok.

Unfortunately the Republican politicians in New York for the most part are only slightly better than the Democrats. They're a bunch of spineless RINO's. I've met New York's former Governor Pataki on several occasions when he was Mayor of Peekskill at his families vegetable stand. He loved to call himself a farmer, a man of the people,"Mister Pataki goes to Albany." He was some farmer and man of the people alright.

What a disappointment he turned out to be. He was nothing more than a political opportunist that only represented the political ambitions of George Pataki. Thank God he never achieved any national office especially president. I'm sorry I ever believed in and voted for him. But there was no other choice it was either him or "El Supremo" Mario Cuomo an arrogant Democrat of the worst order. If I'd stayed home on Election Day I'd have no right to complain. I'd never vote for a Democrat no matter who they nominate for ANY public office.

It's a great big wonderful country, just do your homework and you'll find a place that suits your lifestyle and needs. Once you're outta' New York State it will all become a distant memory and the awakening of a bad dream. I wish you all the luck in the world!

I've been an owner of numerous assault rifles for over 40 years. German HKs, AKs, ARs, FNs...…..etc. It's what I do. I shoot regularly and known locally as "Gunner". People come to me to fix their rifles, zero their gun in and teach them how to hit a clay at 150 yards with iron sights, off the shoulder. I can tell you that the ratio of shooters that use our town's open range is about 50/50 split on which side of the political fence they stand on. That's why nobody talks politics when we shoot. God help us all if that civility ceases among the gun owning community. Both sides practice, are well trained and have the best equipment. H

If you've read any of my posts or haven't put me on ignore yet you know I'm a democratic voice, to a great degree.
I wish that were true however many Democrat politicians have been the most vocal about it. Every time there is a sensationalized shooting they're the first one's calling for some type of ban or the other. While demonizing anyone who dares challenging them. They're always looking to place the blame on everyone and everything but the shooter. With the exception of John Chafee (R) RINO from Rhode Island, I've got plenty of quotes to prove the Democrats' general hostility towards the 2nd Amendment and those of us that support it. There are plenty of them on this forum as well.

I don't doubt that many Democrats including yourself are gun owner's too. Along with owning those evil semi automatic rifles that you've listed. Using the word "evil" I'm being sarcastic of course. But I can't for the life of me understand why any gun owner would want to vote for any Democrat? Especially those in today's Democrat Party? As you will be voting against your own interests. Once the 2nd Amendment goes the others are sure to follow. Unfortunately politics and 2nd Amendment issues are inseparable. You can choose to ignore them at your own peril.

Unfortunately civility has indeed ceased between the two opposing sides. All I really care about is preserving our Constitutional Republic from those who wish to turn this country into an unbridled Democracy. Where the majority rules regardless of political affiliation. Or turn this country into a socialist aristocracy of which only a few oligarch's will have absolute power and control. That's pretty much what California and New York have become. Both states are hopelessly and irrevocably controlled by Democrats.

I've read your posts and have no reason to put you on my ignore list. I only reserve that for those that choose to continuously use derogatory name calling to bolster their positions. Since that's all they've got they're not even worth responding to.

If I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States for an outright ban, picking up every one of them . . . Mr. and Mrs. America, turn 'em all in, I would have done it. I could not do that. The votes weren't here."--Diane Feinstein (D), U.S. Senator from California

"Instead, we should ban possession of military-style semiautomatic assault weapons, we should buy back such weapons from all who choose to abide by the law, and we should criminally prosecute any who choose to defy it by keeping their weapons," he wrote. "The ban would not apply to law enforcement agencies or shooting clubs."--Eric Swalwell (D)

“I believe…..this is my final word……I believe that I’m supporting the Constitution of the United States which does not give the right for any individual to own a handgun….”--Jan Schakowsky (D), U.S. Representative from Illinois

“No, we’re not looking at how to control criminals … we’re talking about banning the AK-47 and semi-automatic guns.”--Howard Metzenbaum (D), former U.S. Senator

“If a bill to ban handguns came to the house floor, I would vote for it.”--Pete Stark (D), U.S. Representative from California

” …we need much stricter gun control, and eventually should bar the ownership of handguns”--William Clay (D), U.S. Representative from Missouri

“Banning guns is an idea whose time has come.”--Joseph Biden (D), Vice President of the United States

“I shortly will introduce legislation banning the sale, manufacture or possession of handguns (with exceptions for law enforcement and licensed target clubs)… . It is time to act. We cannot go on like this. Ban them!”--John Chafee (R), Former U.S. Senator from Rhode Island

“We have to start with a ban on the manufacturing and import of handguns. From there we register the guns which are currently owned, and follow that with additional bans and acquisitions of handguns and rifles with no sporting purpose.”--Major Owens (D), U.S. Representative from New York

“My staff and I right now are working on a comprehensive gun-control bill. We don’t have all the details, but for instance, regulating the sale and purchase of bullets. Ultimately, I would like to see the manufacture and possession of handguns banned except for military and police use. But that’s the endgame. And in the meantime, there are some specific things that we can do with legislation.”--Bobby Rush (D), U.S. Representative from Illinois

“Banning guns addresses a fundamental right of all Americans to feel safe. The National Guard fulfills the militia mentioned in the Second amendment. Citizens no longer need to protect the states or themselves.”--Dianne Feinstein (D), U.S. Senator from California

“All of this has to be understood as part of a process leading ultimately to a treaty that will give an international body power over our domestic laws.”--Charles Pashayan (D), U.S. Representative from California

“Confiscation could be an option…mandatory sale to the state could be an option.”--Andrew Cuomo (D), Governor of New York

“I don’t believe people should to be able to own guns.”-- Barack Obama (D) (during conversation with economist and author John Lott Jr. at the University of Chicago Law School in the 1990s)

"A gun-control movement worthy of the name would insist that President Clinton move beyond his proposals for controls ... and immediately call on Congress to pass far-reaching industry regulation like the Firearms Safety and Consumer Protection Act ... [which] would give the Treasury Department health and safety authority over the gun industry, and any rational regulator with that authority would ban handguns."
- Josh Sugarmann (executive director of the Violence Policy Center)

"We need a new paradigm because both sides are in the corner and they could come to the middle," Schumer said. "Those of who are pro-gun control have to admit that there is a Second Amendment right to bear arms... once we establish that there is a constitutional right to bear arms we should have the right admit, and maybe they'll be more willing to admit, that no amendment is absolute after all."--Chuck Schumer (D), U.S. Senator from New York

"We can't just stand behind you and say we support our men and women in law enforcement community and then not have the laws on the books that help you do your job every day," he said. "And it's time as a city we have an assault weapon ban. And it's time as a state that we have an assault weapon ban. And it's time as a country that we have an assault weapon ban."--Rahm Emanuel (D), Mayor Chicago, Illinois

"We need to do something, at the very least, perhaps, about the high-capacity magazines that were used in this crime."--Richard Blumenthal (D), U.S. Senator from Connecticut

“I don’t care if you want to hunt. I don’t care if you think it’s your right. I say, ‘Sorry.’ It is 1999. We have had enough as a nation. You are not allowed to own a gun, and if you do own a gun I think you should go to prison.--Rosie O'Donnell (D), Comedian

"We cannot let a minority of people—and that’s what it is, it is a minority of people—hold a viewpoint that terrorizes the majority of people." On Australia's gun ban "So I think that’s worth considering," Clinton said. "I don’t know enough details to tell you how we would do it or how it would work. But certainly, the Australian example is worth considering."----Hillary Clinton (D)

George Stephanopoulos pushed Clinton twice on whether people have a right to own guns on ABC News’ "This Week": “But that's not what I asked. I said do you believe that their conclusion that an individual's right to bear arms is a constitutional right?” Clinton could only say: “If it is a constitutional right...

Default Have you read the El Paso killer’s manifesto?

Or do you prefer being spoon-fed what to think?

Warning, if you DO read it, you will distrust the media even more than you currently do. (I didn’t think that was possible for me, but voila!)

I swear— I would rather have one of my kids tell me that they’ve become a ***** or meth dealer than find out that they’re working for the media......

In Arizona where I now reside as does "mohawkx" it's legal to own a fully automatic weapon that was manufactured before 1986 and it's registered with the federal government along with the payment of a $200 tax stamp. But they are prohibitively expensive as the supply is limited to only those particular weapons. Anything manufactured after 1986 can not be legally owned. The same applies to suppressor's but I'm not sure if those are limited by a date of manufacture?

Honestly, this is why these lonely crazy kids are doing mass shootings... look at us here, talking non-stop about it, reading his manifesto, along with the national media... a nobody is now a legend and his warped mind is now being read by millions.

I don’t read asylum escapees drivel.

That is if we had involuntary commitment he would be escapee. Oh but liberals did away with involuntary commitment and now this is what we have.

Mexico plans to take legal action against the gun seller, and Trump is promising to take action too. Though somehow or other I have a feeling that Trump's plan will be something stupid, like more guns.

Quote:
Mexico’s foreign minister says the country plans to take legal action against whoever sold the gun to the man suspected of killing at least 20 people and wounding more than two dozen others in El Paso, Texas.

Marcelo Ebrard said Sunday that “it’s urgent that we take corresponding actions against weapons.” Ebrard has frequently cited the flood of illegal weapons from the U.S. to Mexico as a factor in Mexico’s rising rate of violent crime.

Gun ownership is highly restricted in Mexico, requiring special permits, and gun shops are rare. The average Mexican has trouble legally acquiring a handgun, much less an assault weapon.

Ebrard also called Saturday’s shooting “a terrorist act” against Mexicans and urged the U.S. government to “set a clear position against hate crimes.”
Quote:
President Donald Trump has denounced two mass shootings in Ohio and Texas, saying “hate has no place in our country.”

Addressing reporters in Morristown, New Jersey, Trump said Sunday that “we’re going to take care” of the problem. The president says he’s been speaking to the attorney general, FBI director and members of Congress, and will be making an additional statement Monday.

He says the problem of shootings has been going on “for years and years” and “we have to get it stopped.” Trump also pointed to a mental illness problem in the U.S., calling the shooters “really very seriously mentally ill.”

To Ex New Yorker,

Regarding the above quote from your post, you're right. They are wrong to immediately push against the 2nd. First reason is they can never win that argument, so they're tilting windmills and secondly, you can never put the genie back in the bottle. Guns are an integral part of the American culture, like it or not. Finally, the founders specifically gave the American people the responsibility of protecting our freedom from tyrants by specifically writing in the bill of rights the 2nd.
I believe the answer is to figure out how to deal with that fact and come to bipartisan agreement on how to use reasonable restrictions to vet the purchasers of all guns in America. I was very intrigued by the other poster's idea of requiring liability insurance for all gun ownership. This would immediately place vetting of gun owners just like insurance carriers vet their drivers. This could be done without any new laws or restrictions except requiring insurance.

At the least it would be a great SCOTUS case. "Does requiring liability insurance violate the 'Shall not be infringed' section of the 2nd Amendment."
Great question to ask.
