Republicans must face facts, they cannot continue to win elections with the way demographics are going. Eventually the popular vote results will match the electors for good. They need a bigger base.

Federally legalize weed, before the election. It’s a pro-liberty move. Grows the economy. Eliminates crime. Gets more government revenue without new taxes on those who don’t enjoy it.

I think this would be a huge shot in the arm and win over a whole heap of moderate liberals.

Weed isn't a question about morality.

When the democrats held the power in Congress and the White House they didn't do much about it Federally, so why would anyone think it matters much?

So vote for those who are pro weed even though we have seen they don't do anything about it.

I agree with everything bolded.

I believe the only demographic that is against legalizing marijuana are people over 70. Even Republicans are slightly for legalizing marijuana.

So, yes, Republicans should do it. Most Republicans have already shown they have no scruples when voting for Trump, so why would the anti-drug ones be any different?

Oh I’m not talking about a promise to do it for the next election. I’m saying they do it before 2020 and they gain voters through gratitude. Edited op to reflect that.

People over 70 are probably the ones who smoke it the most

Republicans will be fine. Things are true in politics until they are not, and demographic groups do not have biological destinies to vote a certain way any more than there was ever really a such thing as a "blue wall" of states.

Reagan and Bush 43 got up to 40% of the Hispanic vote, so it is possible. The secret to the Dems getting huge numbers is that they keep importing more impoverished ones that need them. It might be hard to tell right now, but that pool is not always going to be there because population increase in Mexico and South America has crashed.

Asians will vote Republican, and sooner than you think, because of affluence and affirmative action. We already saw a taste of it in the red tide elections.

I have now been listening to the demographic story for 25 years, and Republicans just came down from their greatest apex of power since the civil war.

So, as always, we are going to hold the elections regardless.

As for weed, whatever. Have fun with it.

I've always said, Trump should endorse legalization on a federal level.

There really isn't a downside for him in it.

It would help win over many younger fence sitters and his base wouldn't abandon him over it.

But it has been played as such for too many decades now.
