That is true...for now. His mental health may or may not have been noticed by professionals in his past. We will see on that. However what is true is that many of these shooters in the recent past had long mental health histories. Had we removed them from the streets before they went nutters we could have stopped a large majority of these shootings.

Mental hospitals, lunatic asylums, were more like prisons for the mentally ill. Few doctors, and very few, if anyone ever got any help in those places. They were simply ways of locking people up for life.

But there's a post above this that talks about more social workers, more facilities for people to get help, places for them to stay that are humane, community housing, etc. It's going to cost money but without it, it's costing lives. That's the sort of conversation we need to have.

A small minority of these shootings.

Yes yes!

Mental health funds have been cut. Mental Health organizations are extremely understaffed. Many non profit agencies survive off of Federal grants. Many mental health agencies clients usually have Government insurance or no insurance. There is little financial gain for these organizations.

These hospitals provided a useful option for society to maintain safety for the civilized.
There is a reason why those places were closed down. Lack of funds for one thing, and the other is that the patients were often abused and treated horribly, if not cruelly, by staff. We see this thing going on all the time with the nursing homes, where they are collecting thousands of dollars a month, per resident, not to mention what goes on in the VA hospitals.

Lived in mom & dads house rent free and likely played violent video games hours a day? Clueless parents raising mentally disturbed boys that never mature to manhood. We now reap what we’ve sown.

Ironically, Wal-Mart boy's father is a mental health counselor.

Here is his website. If this type of therapy is what passes for mental health treatment, no wonder we have such problems with the mentally ill.

So what do we about uncontrolled anger when someone becomes a nuisance to society? Do we just do nothing, sit back and wait?

There was a time when these facilities were actually funded and operated by church organizations. Same organizations also offered places for battered women to run to, and also had orphanages set up. Some were bad, but most were good to the communities, but the government decided it was best for them to oversee such projects and started to slowly outlaw the church's involvement with community affairs. Sad, they would even shut down soup kitchens for the hungry.

It has started but always fizzles out if it costs even a dime.
