Having read this article of an interview with Betts' ex girlfriend and as someone struggling with mental health problems I see the motive for this heinous crime quite clearly:

1) He wanted to die as he was in a lot of pain from depression and obsessive thoughts
2) He also wanted to take out his pain and anger on other people, based on his history of expressing a desire to kill and rape several people and his obsession with serial killers.
3) He wanted to achieve both these things in a way that would draw attention to the fact that mentally ill people should not be allowed firearms.

Ex-girlfriend of Ohio gunman Connor Betts says there were 'red flags' - https://news.sky.com/story/amp/ex-gi...flags-11779079

Aside from his desire to make guns harder go obtain for mentally ill people, this was not a politically related crime. He hated himself and wanted to die. He battled OCD and depression and an uncontrollable desire to kill others that he'd expressed to his ex girlfriend. Making this about left or right doesn't resolve the problem and it will happen again and again until someone in power gets a grip

It was one of theirs... It's Trumps fault.

Kellyanne is out there talking about how Trump wants to be “on the ground and heal communities impacted by mass shootings and hurricanes”.

Trump does not do empathy well. It’s not his strength. He needs a script. It is what it is.

Better to focus on China.
Kellyanne criticizing the candidates once again and violating the Hatch Act. I give credit to Trump for his statement but he doesn't do empathy well, didn't sound like him reading from the teleprompter.
