Wrong....the founding fathers were right. Modern leftists are just domestic enemies of America and freedom. The second amendment was put in place in part as a check on federal power. They knew exactly what they were doing. Thankfully there is very little chance in repealing the 2nd amendment and that being the case all these traitors calling for gun confiscation and restrictions cannot legally do what they want to do. My rights are not up for negotiations or debate.

Had repeating weapons been around then( and there were some interesting examples that were), they'd have wanted citizens to have them as well.
The Founding Fathers were the best and brightest leaders and statesman this country has ever seen. Would you let a community arts school student" fix" the Mona Lisa?
Yes, this was so the people would have a fighting chance if they ever needed to remove a govt from power...we still need that advantage today too, who knows when that need may arise?!

The 2nd Amendment is not about attacking a tyrannical US government.

It is about attacking FOREIGN MILITARY FORCES. At the time, there was no standing Army. They wanted to ensure that there would be an armed populace that would be available to augment the US Army in time of war.

The means the founders gave us to prevent tyrannical government in the USA is an adversarial form of government in which the three branches are typically opposed to each other, as opposed to the the Westminster system, in which case the executive is usually the same party as the majority in the legislature...and the other measure they gave us was...VOTING.

Wrong.

It's intended for the individual to rrsist ANY government aggression, foreign or domestic.

It's about both. Nice try, but wishful thinking.

Its secondary purpose was to let people protect themselves from common criminals (Including nutcase assassins like Walmart boy), and to make sure prospective assassins know there's likely some armed citizens in the crowd they want to attack. Sometimes the nutcase assassin will attack anyway, but some will change their mind and go elsewhere. Bingo, a number of lives saved without a shot being fired, all because law-abiding citizens can (and some will) go armed anywhere they want.

The 2nd amendment is the most effective means anybody has yet found, to reduce the overall number of innocent people murdered.

And the leftists fight against it tooth and nail.

They were finished writing the Constitution -- it was a wrap, done. Madison saw the amendments more as a cosmetic affectation to make state ratification easier. Some states were dragging their feet. Of the three versions of what became the Second Amendment, all placed first and foremost attention on a "well-regulated militia". The right to bear arms was already in English common law before the Revolution. The amendment tied it to the idea of a militia.
The Bill of Rights are rights given to the individual, and protect the individual from government.

The 2nd was meant for the individual, but since they also did not want a standing army, it was also those individuals that would be our first line of defense.

Those are the facts.

Remember, skinny people have the advantage in a gunfight.

I have to ask, would you rather be in a knife fight or gunfight?

But here we are.

It's time to consider amending the Constitution again.

Reminds me of this article:

Quote:
The Second Amendment has Failed America

Enough. No more. Stop.

The gun massacres in America are now coming so quickly, one after another, that it's impossible to process our grief and anger before the next one occurs. There is a sickness in our land, and it cries out for an immediate, righteous, and even radical response.

It's possible you went to bed Saturday night, like I did, upset and angry about the news that a 21-year-old man besotted with white supremacy and armed with an assault rifle opened fire in El Paso, Texas, killing at least 20 people and injuring dozens more. How could you know that, by the time you awoke, another mass shooting — this one in Dayton, Ohio — would be making headlines?

Early reports suggested there were multiple casualties in Ohio, and video from the scene showed a massive response by local police and medics. And all of this happened just days after another young man, a 19-year-old who was also obsessed with white supremacy and armed with an assault rifle, opened fire at the Gilroy Garlic Festival in California, killing three people.

God help us.

Scratch that. It's time that we help ourselves. And we can start by understanding and declaring that the Second Amendment is a failure.

The Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution is a failure because the right to bear arms — the right it so famously defends — is supposed to protect Americans from violence. Instead, it endangers them.
