But here we are.

It's time to consider amending the Constitution again.
LOL! Go for it! That would accelerate some REAL change!

When you remove suicides, and inner city gang bangers, there are maybe a few thousand homicides by people using a gun each year in a country of over 330 MILLION. Illegal Aliens pose a far greater risk than people having guns. If you pass more laws, only the law abiding will comply. Criminals will always get guns.

We already have 22,000 gun laws, and these guys already broke several existing laws. More won't help. Semi auto firearms are the most common use. We already had a ten year "assault weapons ban". Nothing changed.

I walk into Walmart with a semiautomatic weapon every week. They carry a brand of breakfast sausage I like.
Been carrying since `96. What's the problem?

All we've ever done is nibbled around the edges. We need to put plans in place that culminate in eliminating the barbarism of a public armed with deadly weapons of range.

One day....people far more civilized will look back upon this savage era in disbelief. Many of us already do. It is utter madness to have anyone and everyone accessing guns and taking them wherever they please as they would a wristwatch.

Americans have had more than enough. Continued denial and inaction on guns by my fellow conservatives will absolutely guarantee the complete takeover of all government branches by the left. And soon....for as far and as long as the mind can see. You (collectively) cling to the 2nd Amendment at the grave risk of losing most of the freedoms we have ever known.

I will admit that I have not read the other replies..but seriously Jude.....
The constitution was written by men who actually fought for our nation...who knew the oppression the colonies were under. We have a RIGHT as US citizens that if we are EVER under that circumstance again to bear arms and fight for what is right.

The sad part of this is that we have people who actually follow the damn law and those who don't. We also have states that enforce the federal law and those who don't. My husband was refused to purchase a damn gun not too long ago over a state law that had not yet gone into effect.

Sorry OP...you are seriously off base here.

If we are not smart enough as a culture to see the error of our ways, then we need this....

Because those freedoms cannot be taken away by the government unless/until the people are disarmed. Hence the "clinging."

What is wrong is using this to defend all weapon ownership,

I am all for sensible people enjoying target shooting or engaging in sport, or even the right to defend your home but you can do this without letting nutcases get a hold of rapid centre fire type weapons and causing massacre after massacre.

What makes you think that someone bent on violence couldn't kill large numbers of people with weapons designed for hunting, home defense and Target shooting?

And for the millionth time......

The second amendment isn't about hunting, home defense or target shooting.

And the people ARE the militia.

Government doesn't grant me rights, especially not the right of self defense with a firearm. I will NOT put myself at a disadvantage to armed criminals, nor an armed oppressive government. You can roll over. I won't. The Second Amendment is meaningless as government can't give, nor take away that right.
