Sounds like they were talking about a militia, indeed during Anglo Saxon times I am sure individuals would keep their bow and arrow at home, but it doesn't mean every one should have the right to a bow and arrow today.
In the parlance of that day, a well-regulated militia = sober men of good character who would answer the call to country if required.
Exactly. Please explain to me, someone, how every mentally unbalanced individual having the "right" to own weapons of mass destruction fits the definition of "a well regulated Militia"?
Again, the FF had no way of seeing how this amendment would be misused. It's time we made a correction to deal with the reality today.
You exaggerate a LOT. "how every mentally unbalanced individual having the "right" to own weapons" NO ONE say they SHOULD.
"of mass destruction" Do you have ANY IDEA what "weapons of MASS destruction are" ?

In their defense, they had no idea what that amendment would result in some 200+ years later, no way to know the kind of advanced weaponry that would be invented and fall into hands they don't belong in, no way of knowing how Americans would misuse and abuse the amendment in ways they never intended.
But here we are.
It's time to consider amending the Constitution again.
The 2nd Amendment was envisioned to protect America from internal and external threats in order to preserve the Republic. The founding fathers never foreseen America becoming a dominant global power and hegemon.
So do you think this is the America the founding fathers envisioned? With mass shootings taking place on a regular basis? Do you think this was their intent with that amendment?
The "right of the people" means EVERY individual in both the 1st and 4th Ammendments. It was ruled upon by the Supreme Court as recently as 2002 (IIRC), that it is meant the same way for the 2nd Ammendment.

No they didn't. But the Constitution has an amendment process written right in it, so get on with it.
