The Founding Fathers Made a Mistake With the Second Amendment

Actually no.

Later Americans made the mistake of misinterpreting it, and that was a deliberate choice. Lawyercraft at it's best serving civil society at it's worst.

The idea here is keeping the federal government in check. If you have a voluntary local force that is functional and safe and run by local citizens that is very different than an army run under the president's command.

Why do you think that a well regulated militia doesn't mean a militia at all, but that it in fact means you can get a concealed carry permit and walk around public with guns? Or that you should be able to walk around a festival with an assault weapon? A regulated, functional militia is a local military force not an individual doing whatever they please.

What's your thoughts on the wording of the 1776 PA Constitution that predate the US Constitution and has many of the same authors?

Quote:
That the people have a right to bear arms for the defence of themselves and the state; and as standing armies in the time of peace are dangerous to liberty, they ought not to be kept up; And that the military should be kept under strict subordination, to, and governed by, the civil power.
Amended in 1790 and current:
Quote:
§ 21. Right to bear arms.

The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned.

§ 22. Standing army; military subordinate to civil power.

No standing army shall, in time of peace, be kept up without the consent of the Legislature, and the military shall in all cases and at all times be in strict subordination to the civil power.

True, you can see it here. People are misrepresenting the fact that its the right given to individuals and not the government, which is why it's included in the Bill of Rights.

Maybe 2A should only apply to guns at same level of reload time as when 2A became law. Which was 20 seconds per shot.

I do think there should be restrictions in place not to allow a loser kid to buy weapons beyond hon-automated handguns.

In the 80s murder rates soared as 18-30 year old males were a larger % of the population in many cities.

So perhaps, since we know they pose disproportionate risk, that demographic should be required to buy very costly, large $ amounts of insurance meant to cover incidents of this nature. Require enough so junior playing Gameboy, filling a slurpee machine 2 days a week, can't afford it.

The kids with a future are usually (not always) not the killers. The losers are. Price them out of the market which should be available to sane, responsible, mature Americans.

I do not worry about Joe Six Pack having such weapons who has a 40 hour a week solid middle class job, a home, wife, and kids. He has skin in the game to lose.

But we should restrict assault weapons from loser kids by making them beyond their financial means to own.

So, as a local citizen, I can establish my own militia , and we can then bear arms?

So, each person can establish their own militia and arm themselves?

So, since there were no phones or computers when we were given the right against searches and seizures without warrant, the government can search your electronic files and listen to your phone calls without a warrant?
