And this is the criteria the left wants to use for the "red flag" laws they are proposing......

You’ve got it backwards. The NRA exists to express the will of the people, the 5+ million members like myself. And no, corporate contributions aren’t that big a deal. Bloomberg business listed the top corporate contributors in a graphical format some years ago. Interestingly, the largest contributor by far was Midway. They have a “Round-Up Program” where buyers can voluntarily round up their purchase price to the nearest dollar with the overpayment amount going directly to the NRA. So, it turns out that the largest “corporate” contributor was one who simply passed on voluntary over-payment of customers.

The power of the NRA comes from its very politically active membership who can flood congress with mail and phone calls whenever needed.

Because it will open a Pandora's box that the left wants to keep closed.

If you include mental illness in background checks, people will start demanding that the mentally ill be institutionalized the way they used to be.

After all.....

Why is someone who has been deemed to dangerous to own a firearm allowed to walk around free in public?

Same goes for criminals, convicted violent felons.......

LaPierre is very likely exaggerating the membership. Too many quietly have left, and more and more, the NRA is becoming irrelevant. It's become a mouthpiece for manufacturers, and no longer represents what it was actually established to do.

Well, I’m telling you numbers based on memberships from several months ago when there was no reason to fudge them. Do you have any actual data on membership declining or just anecdotal observations?

so there are 3 categories that enjoy 2/3 support from all. Work on getting agreeable legislation on those 3 passed.

Because for example, EVERYBODY loves the idea of "red flag" - where someone with actual knowledge has reason to be genuinely concerned, and reports it.

What people DON'T LIKE is the idea of who reports who, and infringes upon their rights for reasons unintended by the law. And you've got the kink of HIPAA and medical/mental health professionals reporting their patients.

where's the NRA going to go? At BEST, they put their limited resources behind a 2024 candidate, and might make some difference in a very few Congressional seats in 2020.

92% of Americans want background checks.
we have background checks. Now yes, if they're in force right now, we should have background checks for private dealers/gun shows. If these sales aren't regulated, then I as a consumer - since the deadline is currently 3 days - should be able to get a clearance and attend next week's gun show with voucher in hand and purchase a legal weapon.

The NRA doesn't give really large donations to any one politician, so why does congress listen?

It's because there is one of the largest, and most passionate voting blocks behind the NRA.

I know you guys refuse to acknowledge this, but it's a fact.
they have about 5MM members (their claim), likely only in the 4MM range.

there are 20MM US Veterans.

Evidently Congress isn't listening to the will of the people.
