Yep, talks out of both sides of his mouth all the time. He's so nutty. Doesn't have a clue.

So blaming mentally ill for mass shootings and also giving them more access to guns!?

I'm actually much more afraid of any normal "sane" person without empathy that has anger issues of any kind and their access to guns!

He didn't remove any law. He signed one into place that was repealing a SSA regulation (not vote required) that was put into place by the Obama administration on the way out the door (went into effect after the election, during the lame duck period). He signed a law that duly passed both houses of Congress in Jan 2017 that overwrote a regulation that went into effect Dec 2016.

And I do recall the conversation around the issue at the time - anyone who was under mental health care or incapacity (elderly) to the point someone else received their SS check (let's call it a guardian), that they were no longer allowed to OWN a gun. I could be wrong on ownership vs purchasing though.

Thankfully for the internet, most government actions are not too hard to find ...

As required by the NIAA, at the commencement of the adjudication process we will also notify individuals, both orally and in writing, of their possible Federal prohibition on possessing or receiving firearms, the consequences of such prohibition, the criminal penalties for violating the Gun Control Act, and the availability of relief from the prohibition on the receipt or possession of firearms imposed by Federal law.
and from factcheck.org (feel free to link a more accurate site):

this is what was ALREADY covered under law (not regulation):

Quote:
Under federal law, individuals “committed to any mental institution” or “adjudicated as a mental defective” by a court, board, commission or other lawful authority are prohibited from purchasing or possessing a gun.

Adjudicated as a mental defective means people who — “as a result of marked subnormal intelligence, mental illness, incompetency, condition, or disease” — lack the mental capacity to manage their own affairs, or are a danger to themselves or someone else. It also includes people found insane by a court in a criminal case, or found incompetent to stand trial, or not guilty by reason of lack of mental responsibility.
