Every, and I repeat EVERY, parent who has been brought into this country as part of family reunification is receiving cash assistance and is on Medicaid. I know dozens. They may be living in million dollar homes of their kids but have nothing in their names. They are "dirt poor" and they qualify. Nobody is going after their financial sponsors and frankly, I don't expect that to change.
you got that wrong, most states do not let green card holders to sign up for medicaid, no matter what. Parents must become citizens for that. The rumors about freebies immigrants get are greatly exaggerated. NYC is a different animal.
Never should have been happening to begin with. My family came over here in the 30's and 40's, and they had no help from welfare. If my family can do, anybodies can.
Agreed. My grandmothers family survived the dust bowl in this era. No welfare no handouts. They worked and farmed what they could and traded their excess of one crop for other things they needed.
I personally hope it will stick, at least they can make it harder like when people are on unemployment and show they are actively searching for work if not employed.
If you are a legal immigrant to the UK and Australia (and most other countries), you are not allowed to get government benefits, usually for several years. Countries don't want economic migrants draining the social services meant for its citizens who have paid for them for many years. Common sense.

Wrong. Today, we have plenty of immigrants who come here, work hard and live as roomies in an apartment, then save up and start a small business or try and learn a trade, and didn't have no need for government hand outs. Now, I know a local church that helps out immigrants. They get room and board, in exchange for helping out with charity work. This is how it should be, where we as citizens have the choice to donate to the churches and let them help out, and not be forced to do it by the government.

Green card applicants have to provide financial information. This is not new rules.
But the reality is -- that once these folks are given status -- many of them work those low paying jobs that make them qualify for federal assistance.
Any discussion on why the USA thinks it is okay to have so many jobs that make folks qualify for free breakfast and lunches, and health care for their kids.

That’s not what he maintained all these years. His opponents rightly denounced him as anti immigration, a claim he denied by claiming he is only “concerned” with US law. Other than that, such long term, strategic policies should be decided by congress. (For example, in 1924 congress decided to severely limit all immigration).
Disclaimer: I’m not expressing an opinion regarding immigration in general. I’ve heard good arguments from both sides and honestly I’m still undecided. My remark is limited to this president’s decisions and the way he manages things.
Allowing in only immigrants we need and won't be a burden to our society does not make one anti-"immigrant"!
I see nothing wrong with Trump's actions. Sometimes he doesn't express himself well but that's a minor thing to me.
