This actually is making me emotional, and in a good way. For far too long, we've had politicians talk a good talk, to include both Republicans and Democrats, who voted to build (but not fund) a wall during the administration of GWB. Of course, since then, Democrats had a change of heart (I wonder why) and now oppose all efforts to build a wall.

Its is amazing to have a president seeing through with his campaign promises. To date, over $1 billion has been awarded in contracts to build the wall along our southern border. At an estimated $20 million a mile, the overall allocation of funds (we're talking about $7 billion-ish I believe), the current year's allocation to the border wall will make a serious dent. I'm waiting to see what cuts DoD and other departments will make to their budget to support the wall efforts in the next fiscal year!

For all the naysayers who say the wall is useless, its already proven effective where it is built. And just look to Israel.

It's a "replacement" wall not a new one.

Which is more effective than the old wall, so just as important. The old wall in many places were so low and ineffective that people were able to climb over or dig under. The new wall has anti-dig features and is tall enough (and has anti climb features) to make it difficult to get through.

Moreover, contracts have been awarded (and are being awarded) to build completely new sections of the wall.

Part of it is to replace the flimsy fencing that was built under Obama instead of the good double barriers that were supposed to be built back in 2006 but weren't. Trump wants an additional 300 miles built on the most porous areas of the border. If not for the Democrat hypocrites in congress who approved that wall in the first place we'd have it done by now.

Let's face it we know why you and yours don't want those good walls because you want the flow of illegals to continue.

I especially loved when CNN Jim Acosta stood in front of the border wall and said see no imminent danger, no migrants trying to rush toward this fence, claiming there was no national emergency LOL

LOL he really was a fool to try that. But I've seen such similar "logic" from the elites who think they are so much smarter than the rest of us. Far too often they end up making our points for us.

Indeed. I couldn't believe when I read that much of the prior fencing was made with scrap metal, which wasn't even built to prevent people from digging Its like they intentionally built a flimsy fence that they knew wasn't 100% effective

Wow, a whole 14 miles using money meant for the military. But then again we all know Trump supporters don't really care about the military. What money will he use for the next 2000 miles?

The fact that the military was able to pull from funds without hurting mission readiness just shows you that the military budget is over-bloated. Of course, this entire thing could have been avoided completely if Democrats actually voted to fund the wall they voted to authorize back in 2006

For the remaining balance, though, Trump will use fiscal year 2020 and 2021 funds. These funds come out of fiscal year 2019 funds. Next year's federal budget leaves a whole new pot to tap for the wall via the National Emergencies Act

The US should give the wall contract to the construction company who built the We Build the Wall section of barrier in NM. Done in a matter of weeks, including taking down part of a mountain which the Army Corps of Engineers said was impossible. A fraction of the cost! Much better than even the newest sections built by the Feds. This has sensors and lights,

This section is being donated to the US Government.

The road they constructed along the wall must look tempting to skateboarders and cyclists!
