It has long been the law that immigrants (LEGAL) cannot get public assistance for FIVE years. That's why they are required to have a sponsor. The sponsor signs legal papers and provides proof that he/she has enough resources to support the new immigrant. It's news to me that no one has been enforcing it. It needs to be enforced.

(and I don't believe it hasn't been enforced.)

Should be no welfare of any kind for the legal immigrants and if they become homeless or start causing crimes, back they go.

it specifically says those who are granted asylum don't have to meet the same litmus test. They get benefits.

Now, pointing that out may cause another wave of asylees, but that's what it said.
