An enthralled South Lawn crowd of more than 13,500 sang "Happy Birthday" to Pope Benedict XVI on Wednesday — twice — and President Bush said that the first papal White House visit in 29 years was a reminder for Americans to "distinguish between simple right and wrong."

Interesting that the Pope and the Dalai Lama are here at the same time.

I think His Holiness is overmatched...

I could be mistaken, but I think those are worn in honor of his predecessor.

Default Papal Shoes

"The Papal Slippers are a historical vestment of the Roman Catholic Church traditionally worn by the pope on his feet. They are a form of episcopal sandals worn by early bishops. Red in color to symbolize the blood of the martyrs, the slippers altogether symbolized the submission of the pope to the ultimate authority of Jesus Christ."
