I'm not entirely sure of the motive of the OP, but comparing non-firearm murders to a small portion of firearm murders is not a genuine use of the data.
It is when the type of firearm they are seeking to ban is in that category.
Round 1. A gets a 20' head start, B gets a hammer.
Round 2. B gets a 20' head start, A gets a gun.
Who would you rather be?
I don't know. Maybe your house has huge hallways and a hidden escape chute and/or a panic room that perhaps your loved one can get to. And maybe she's way faster than a crazed guy with a hammer. My missus will put holes in that person until they stop moving and I'm OK with that. You have your strategy. I have mine.
I'm not bothered by the individual heated murders between friends and family--they'll use whatever is on hand. That's their business.
I'm worried about those nutjobs who want to murder strangers. In a movie theater, mall, school, church. Public places where any innocent person can be shot for no reason. How many public mass murders are committed with hammers or clubs?
I agree. It's stupid to ban long guns. But manipulating the data to get a null is disingenuous.
I think it's stupid to ban any type of gun especially when you are basing on mass shootings. If we were able to remove every "assault gun" from the streets and then someone kills 20 people with a shotgun what then?
These people plan these attacks for weeks, months or even years. If someone wants to kill a lot of people gun or no gun they only need the right plan and perhaps a little luck.
