The vast majority of cities on this list of cities with the worse air pollution are run by Democrats. Why?

Maybe cause all of the republicans in the suburbs refuse to take mass transit and drive their gas hog Hummers and Range Rovers into the city where they earn a living?

Are there any comparably sized non-Dem cities? If so, where do THEY rank?

The only major city I'm aware of that has a recent and substantial history of being in Republican hands (albeit officially on a non-partisan basis) is San Diego. Guess what -- it's on the list.

One, there are a lot of us, and we own a lot of cars. Angelenos own 0.54 vehicles per person, compared to 0.43 in New York City. Also, we have the busiest ports in the country, which means tens of thousands of heavy-duty diesel trucks are on our roads, and they are way dirtier than cars.
Two, the mountains that ring the L.A. Basin trap that pollution as it gets pushed eastwards by sea breezes.
And three, our climate. Nearly three out of four days in L.A. are sunny. And the L.A. Basin frequently experiences a weather pattern where a layer of warm air will sit on top of a layer of cooler air and prevent it from dispersing. That traps pollution closer to the ground. Think of it like putting a lid on a pot.

Bigger cities mean more vehicles but a lot of pollution travels from the coal plants in the Midwest, pollution is not localized. Its not just vehicle ownership, its a lack of mass transit in many cities.

Even the Grand Canyon has a pollution problem.

Silly troll.

LA listed as most polluted. The city of LA has a population about 4 million.

Bangor, Maine is listed as the least polluted. It has a population of 34,000.

Btw, the 3 term mayor of Bangor is a Democrat.

Does geography, size and density of population and number of cars elude you?
