Big ideas always sound like a joke. Going to the moon, nuclear power and how about vaccine for cancer? Joke too? Your big vision is to pick which exit gets you home faster. Thank God for big thinkers.
Big ideas that might impact the sovereignty of other nations are fine as long as they're explored using some form of tactful diplomacy but this moron has no idea of tact much less diplomacy and seems unwilling to learn either tactic.

We should buy Greenland and the feds can sell it into private American ownership. The profit could reduce the deficit. The mining alone would reduce our dependency to China in this area.

Can't disagree with your observation about their hypocrisy. Acquiring Greenland would be a no-brainer, huge strategic value, it's been proposed by other Presidents.
What is ridiculous is Trump's absurd approach; first of all making the appeal in public. It's nothing but another diversionary stunt. Much like running for President, this is all about feeding his ego.
Those discussions are the traditional euro response to issues needing immediate attention. Schedule a meeting in Bruges, 6 months from today, and issue a declaration of righteous indignation....hopefully the crisis will then be over or we can punt to the US to resolve it.
Trump is showing the laconic, pretentious global leadership for what it is.... a do nothing provincial oriented group that allows problems to fester. Endless talk is their flight or fight alternative which they hope lulls everyone to sleep. Globally we see nothing but place holder leaders.
