Denmark is a very close ally?
Quite. And hands-on. Iraq, Afghanistan, anti-piracy off Somalia, RDAF airstrikes on ISIL.

You're welcome, I'm sure.

If Denmark isn't a close ally, who is? Size doesn't always matter.
I am not sure though if one needs allies such as today's America. Or to put it in other words, if America keeps on like this, there won't be many allies left.
Which will suit Putin the Puppet Master just fine.

It's still quite the snub. Not so much at the PM - Danes don't like their politicians any better than any other right-thinking people - but Trump had been invited as head of state, and that means he just told the Queen to wait for him to find a better date. It was even going to be the full-pageantry reception with honor guards in bearskin caps presenting arms, military orchestras performing the Star Spangled Banner, reception at the royal castle and mingling with medal-covered people calling him 'Your Excellence'.

If he decides to show up again, the royals will be busy and he'll get the head-of-government deal. Limo, police escort and a firm handshake at the official PM residence.

Don't mess with Her Majesty. She's far too gracious to even pretend to notice, but Danes have noticed.

And just to demonstrate that this administration is hellbent on inventing new levels of embarrassment just to try them out on what was once a great nation, I present to you the US ambassador to Denmark - former star of the movie Deathstalker and the Warriors From Hell, a film bad enough to get the Mystery Science Theatre 3000 treatment.

Her qualifications: Marrying rich, inheriting when hubby died (the sound you hear in the background is Melania hissing "I hate her!") and spending 300K+ on getting Trump elected.

In return, she got - well, a very public humiliation.

Anyway, for your enjoyment, direct from the MST3K archives:

Comment from a Dane with information you won't read in mainstream media:

The inhabitants (56.000) hate us, as a drug addict hates his pusher (we pay them $700 million a year) They are like immature teenagers, that haven’t moved out, and hates their parents for making decisions on their behalf. They want the money AND independence, and hate Denmark for not providing that utopia !

Greenland has two permanent seats in the danish parliament and has outsmarted former danish governments, by being the “final vote” in many cases unrelated to Greenland, but enabling them to get better “deals” than what their size (in population) would justify.

So right now the case is so: Greenland receives subsidies annually ($700 million) but can at any moment chose to say “goodbye” to Denmark, and keep all the values in the ground, with no regards to the astronomical amount of money sent to them throughout the years. Fortunately (or unfortunately for Greenland) a recent report stated that in order to receive the same surplus as they receive today, it would require 26 full scale mines in full operation to generate that ! That report sort of killed the idea of independence ! But the hate remains....

If the inhabitants hate Denmark, the inhabitants will likely hate the USA too, if the USA buys Denmark. I would say just give Greenland full independence.

I think some people just don't care. And some people might look down on the inhabitants of Greenland.
