North Vietnam was never close to surrendering, we did not have troops ringing Hanoi, and the NVA was well aware of the inferiority of the ARVN soldier. It was a war of attrition we thought we could win but we were completely wrong, and after 58,000 dead for nothing, we sailed for home.
