Depends on the specifics. There have been examples of tolerant and oppressive regimes of both.

The difference coming from the leaders throwing on their own flavor without justification in either holy book.

I'll take Jesus for $2,000, Alex. Political Islam is too primative, hateful, and radical.

One big reason why Islam is so destructive and not reformed is that the Qur'an explicitly states that it cannot be changed or reformed unlike the "other" faiths have been.

They don't evangelize and try to convince others to convert. You might say that with their chosen one's status that they actively try to keep others from joining their elite group
