Yes, they feign interest, laugh at your jokes and tell you how dreamy you are.

One would believe men are incapable of making a sandwich. Its meat and veggies between two pieces of bread with some form of condiment. How hard is that.

I am very fortunate to have her.”

Would you purchase a robot to serve as a companion/lover.
You really don't need a robot. A couple small dildonics and a VR headset would be much better....IMHO

I wouldn't buy the robot.....but would consider VR if it also did lots of other things (exploring the world, etc.)....

According to many on the Right and many Fundies that action you mentioned is sinful and dangerous too! So, no, you are not allowed to do that either.

I just read about a religious group that makes you pay the leader something like $500 for each time you sin like that. The payment for more terrible things...is lower! I guess the leader is a smart dude and knows where the money is!

If I am going to shell out money for a robot, I want a robot that will clean my house, cook, mow the lawn, clean up the dog poop, do laundry, etc. Not a one trick wonder that just lies in bed and probably has no imagination. A cleaning robot doesn't need much AI and doesn't even have to look lifelike, so save the money on design there. I want a super Rumba with enough AI to know the bathroom is messy and it should go clean it without me telling it to. Plus, since most people are paired off and most men don't have issues with women, I would think demand for robotic maids would have a higher demand (appeal to those in relationships and those not). Plus businesses would want them too (imagine how much hotels could save having robotic maid service or office building or gyms).

I would say I wonder why the Chinese are spending so much of their time with such a niche product* (a robot that does one thing only and only appeals to a fraction of half the population. Probably less than the number of people willing to shell out money for a sex doll). But I suspect their one child combined with favoring male babies has a lot to do with it. Usually when countries have a surplus of males, they go to war. This is a nicer alternative.

* Edited to say, maybe it's not that so much time is spent on these kinds of robots, but that they make for more sensational stories and click rates so we hear about them more often than something more dull (but more useful to mankind).

While I agree with what you said I want to add the fact that the sex (porn) industry, with its mass influx of money has inspired many new inventions which have later been introduced into mainstream technology that is applicable to so much of what we now use and take for granted. I'll pick a few specifics which were driven by the sex (porn) industry. high quality video compression. Far less expensive but extremely high quality portable camera technology. Numerous advances in network technology including peer to peer and video/audio conferencing.

New inventions and technology regularly come from completely different markets than what they end up being used for regularly. A perfect example is MRI imaging technology.

That said, the source or origins of new, fascinating, inventive and useful technology is of no concern for me. The concept of AI mixed with robotics that can be programmed to take out the trash when it's full or take the trash container to the curb on Thursday morning at 5:00 am, then bring it back to the garage that afternoon... clean the house, wash windows, prepare incredible home made meals, clean up after meals, wash dishes, mow the lawn, etc. I don't care where that technology originates, I just would like the opportunity to purchase and benefit from it. For me, the fact that it came from the sex industry, and is usable as a sex partner or even a partner in general is just icing on the cake.

And on the off chance that they get exactly human-like, how is it any different than a prostitute?
I was just coming here to post this. This is the automation of functions currently provided by prostitutes.

Of course we have been automating more and more activities, consistently over a period going back over a hundred plus years. For example, water used to be carried from wells in jars and pitchers on a daily basis, but it is now piped in. Laundry used to be done by hand, but now we put it in a machine. All of that goes back many years and the list of other examples is very long indeed and growing longer all the time.

So will people regard it as a bad thing if human prostitution is rendered increasingly obsolete by these sex machines? Or maybe it is not just sex that the visitors of prostitutes are looking for.

Where in the world do you get these ideas.

It doesn't seem like it would be the same thing. I don't know. I won't be around for it anyway.

Call me an old fashion romantic but I like my b-itches to be all natural psychotic.

You got me on that one. LOL!

I suppose for some folks out in the sticks, AI in the form of a sheep that comes with velcro gloves would do too.
