Depends, in pursuit of short term at the expense of the long term is not in the best interest of the shareholders. There are numerous examples out there, including Welch's GE.

"While each of our individual companies serves its own corporate purpose, we share a fundamental commitment to all of our stakeholders," said the statement, which signed by 181 CEOs. "We commit to deliver value to all of them, for the future success of our companies, our communities and our country."

"The American dream is alive, but fraying," said Jamie Dimon, chairman and CEO of JPMorgan Chase & Co. and chairman of Business Roundtable, in a press release.
Is that why they keep artificially pushing up share prices through buy-back schemes.

Funny..AT&T was singled out as a bad guy in some article about the tax cuts and share buy backs.

Now if you took that article at face value, then yeah..AT&T looks bad..they used the money from tax cuts to benefit themselves.

But, if you go look into AT&T you will see that they do quarterly share buy backs and have been doing that for over a decade.

Pfizer was another one accused of using the money for share buybacks.
They announced theirs 2/17..well before the tax cuts and that decision would have been made in 2016.

Bias anyone ? I think the MSM is pretty confident that the majority will take what they write at face value and will not question it and will not go off on their own to verify it.
