I disagree.

We need the FDA because of a long history of bad drugs being peddled to the people. They were called 'snake oil' in the early days for a reason. Many products contained ingredients like mercury.

China has very poor product safety enforcement and their drugs and consumer products are notoriously unsafe, although very affordable. We need the FDA to help assure product safety ... think Thalidomide.

We could have much better pricing if the government in this country were able to negotiate better drug prices with the industry, but it is the very well paid industry lobbyists who make sure that will not happen. Mitch McConnell raked in millions from the pharmaceutical industry. That's the problem.

Trumps war on Obamacare pales in comparison to the war on Obamacare by the current Democratic Presidential candidates with the exception of Biden. Check out the last debate.

So you are wrong. Plan ahead while young for your later years.
My mom planned she had money tied up in a 401K she had a heart attack 10 years before it was time to retire,
Want to guess what happened next? So your wrong, again.

This.

Everyone of the leaders wants to replace Obamacare. It must be a crappy program if even the Dems don't like it.

Yet thousands of people still rely on it.

The poetic thing about this is McConnell is from Kentucky. KYnect is Obamacare. So he will own taking away their health care right along with Trump. Oh and the new GOP mantra is not to cover pre-existing conditions. Their rationale is people will take advantage so no pre-existing conditions coverage. The country just needs to split. Let them have their no health care and pay for themselves while blue states do our own with our own tax money.

Wrong. They have wanted to make adjustments. The GOP wouldn't allow it and now the GOP can take it all away. Thankfully red states that voted for Trump will be right in line for punishment.

Yes, some people can prepare better. However, financial ruin can happen to any of us especially where healthcare costs are concerned. Good for you though, that you are above all that.

the FDA approves what it want$ and denys what it wants, neither of which should be confused with having your health in mind. Wake us up when it bans big tobacco. And not only does it look the other way on the bad, it keeps the good off the market; protectionism, cronyism, stonewalling approvals, making cures and substances cost prohibitive, etc. Who are they or you to deny someone a substance that may provide a cure or ease suffering? Your viewpoint on this selfish, naive and cruel.
The best way to bring down drug prices is to open the market up to competition and remove the protections the politicians provide.

Right up to the election Trump promised to repeal and REPLACE Obamacare with something wonderful that was going to take care of everybody at a tiny fraction of the cost. He had no details or plans.

Yet he did not mention healthcare during his inaugural address. Shortly thereafter, he let loose with “ no one knew healthcare was so complicated” I can only assume he was talking about his closest advisors.

Trumpcare 1 and 2 which Trump endorsed failed in Congress. In doing so, Trump dodged a bullet.

By the time of the 2018 midterms, the GOP compelled Republican candidates to gush about mandating insurers insure all preexisting conditions, something they resisted for 8 years.

We are the fattest people in the developed world. It should come as no surprise that we spend more on healthcare. Nearly 1/3 of the population has been diagnosed with Diabetes or is prediabetic.

Unless/ until personal responsibility for health and cost are joined at the hip, there is no meaningful way to make a dent in healthcare costs in the US.

Preach.

All the people defending this ridiculous, insane status quo clearly have never played any game that has an in-game economy, like an MMO. If you had, you would understand the concept of the "money sink" that developers use to remove currency from the game to keep the in game economy from going crazy for as long as is possible.

The US healthcare industry is one of several money sinks that government relies on to ensure the level of accumulated/stored wealth doesn't go crazy. An earlier poster shouts out the example of dear old mom losing the 401k to a heart attack. Well, that system of sucking down all your savings into the abyss of healthcare costs is BY DESIGN. Leviathan wants that money gone before dear old mom can pass it along to her progeny, who would gain some unfair familial advantage of accumulating wealth, or whatever they are saying to justify money sinks these days.

Why do you think after 50+ years of discussion and hysterics, all that changes is the cost going up and the government gaining even more control? It's better than the estate tax for preventing multiple generations from cumulative wealth accumulation. Getting the rich old person into the hospital system will drain WAAAAYYYYY more of their life savings than the estate tax, especially for those whose estates fall under the punitive levels of taxation the estate tax levies. For the $100k to $5 million crowd, who are relatively unscathed by estate taxes, the healthcare system is an awesome way to rid their individual coffers of that pesky stored wealth.

Since Congress skims off the healthcare industry profits, the costlier it is, they also get that nice personal benefit on top of making sure that the rate at which new people are added to the moneyed class of Americans stays as low as possible.

Every last thing about healthcare costs is by, for and because of government. It's all by purposeful design with the goal of making sure as few people as possible ever have true independence from the government, and anyone who manages to achieve doesn't pass that independence along to others.
