Interesting philosophy.

This is a proof of concept- not the final product by a long shot. Lessons are being learned here. There will be design improvements and better calculations next time.

Should the calculations look favorable, somebody will make the next (better) attempt. And so on.

We'd still be in the horse & buggy era if it was up to some folks.
Yep, "Solar Freakin' Roadways" the original promotion video has 23 million views now.

The calculations do not look favorable. It was always a silly idea and thoroughly debunked from the start by engineers. Road surfaces just aren't a good place to put solar panels.

There is an abundant supply of rooftops yet to be used. Roads can wait.

As with innovations in the past, you learn a lot from the failures, and build on that for success in the future.

That's amazing that they even tried that. Wow.

That's what people said about going to the Moon.

You learn a lot from attempting new things, and you can use those failures to build on for future successes, and use parts of the projects in different applications. So many inventions that we use in the modern world arose from the innovations for the NASA projects.

The fact is there are plenty of roofs to use and in case you haven’t noticed massive failures like this provide political opponents with something to ridicule environmentalists and solar proponents.

You would think they could have duplicated what these tiles would go through and realized it wouldn’t work before spending all that money to provide political fodder for their opponents.

Interesting philosophy.

Exactly. Oops, Apollo 1 had a tragic fire that killed three astronauts. Let's scrap the whole Apollo program. Won't work, doomed to fail, better quit now.

Nothing wrong with trying - unless they used public funds for this.

All of this stuff sounds great and utopian, until reality kicks in.
Yup that's what they said about sewer systems and such.

Nah, the concept was, is and always will be a boondoggle... solar roads make the neck basket look like a stroke of genius!!!
