https://www.gov.uk/national-minimum-wage-rates

This would raise the minimum for those over 25 to $10 per hour but lower it for those under 18 to $5 per hour with a sliding scale for those between 18-25. They would more or less be where they are now. Doing this would not put a burden on businesses to raise prices and cause rapid inflation which would hurt fixed income people since their COL increases do not keep up with real inflation.

I feel we should discourage students from dropping out of school with a very low minimum and set the minimum a little higher for those who living off the wages to survive.

Cities and states would still be fine with raising minimum wages as high as they want.

So, what if you're a teen parent?

I think the UK is the last country we should be emulating what with the mess they're making of their own economy with Brexit, etc.

The minimum wage should be $15.00/hour across the board. College costs a fortune these days and the kids need to earn every penny they possibly can. And $10/hr for an adult is a joke. You can't live on that amount - even$15.00/hr is hardly great. The fat cat CEO's can take a 1% pay cut across the board so that their own employees can get a living wage.

Depends where you live. That is why cities and states can do whatever they want, the will of the people of those states. Minimum wage is not a living wage. A living wage is what you get when you bring something to the table with education.

There are very low COL states where $10 is fine. I know I have seen it first hand.

More than likely they are getting public assistance now and not working. But perhaps a low minimum will make teens think twice before putting themselves in a situation of having to work before they reach 18.

Well, unless they were raped and choose to keep their kids or somehow passed high school as a parent, then perhaps they should have not been popping the cherry!

1. And you'd likely assure that fewer would be able to earn those pennies, re fewer jobs.

2. You wrote across the board. Twice. Interesting that you think, for instance, that a retail shop owner with five employees is a fat cat CEO .

Noone believes in balance any more.

The $15 dollar crowd is now gathering to try to force the MW to $20. Meanwhile those on the right want no MW or for that matter, many do not want even safety rules or hour rules. The rightist corporatist types also want unlimted immigration to drive down wages.
