True, but I think we're talking about AFTER they have them.

Lunch and breakfast should be free for every student in America, without question. I know a lot of the country club Republicans in Congress have never missed a meal, but it’s pretty damn hard to focus on school when you’re hungry.

Right, and most people donít realize that it is much cheaper to pay for free breakfast/lunch for 13 years than it is to pay for someone who did poorly in school (or dropped out) for life because they had behavior problems, couldnít concentrate, or had other issues because they were hungry. It isnít the childrenís faults that they couldnít have food. Why are we punishing them for their parentsí incompetence?

Are we providing schools or restaurants? Go to many national parks and there are signs advising not to feed the bears, as it creates an unhealthy dependency when bears come to expect it. Same with feral cats.

Why are we penalizing the rest of us (or at least the 50% who actually bear the tax burden) for the parentsí irresponsibility? The ingredients for a simple lunch each day for a week are less than a pack of cigarettes or a bottle or two of malt liquor. Let the parents make that choice.

That's just it, they have made the choice. Or not, and just let it go.

Why don't we also make housing and cars free for every person as well?

I don't have kids. Why is it my responsibility?

Kids aren't hungry and you have no proof they are. Food is plentiful and readily available in America and no one is starving. This isn't a 3rd world country so stop with the fake drama.

Children aren't going to school hungry. That's something you made up and have no proof. Look at all the fat little butterballs and you think they go hungry?
.
Why are we being punished for their incompetence?

I can't believe that no one has pointed out that the origin of the federal school lunch program goes back to World War II when the military found that young conscripts were underfed and unfit for service. The government wanted to fatten them up so they would be fit to send to war. That is why we pay to feed kids whose parents don't always take care of their responsibilities.
