Do you like roads and bridges? Do you like an army between your family and those who would sooner see you dead? These things cost money.

Do you get a kick out of your money being used to bomb and murder hundreds of thousands of poor brown people?

Muh roads!!!

Every. Single. Time.

To answer your questions, I prefer private roads and private security.

1) A road can be built by anyone with the materials and skills to build them. The government typically hires private contractors to build roads, and pays them with what is left over from money they took from you by force and skimmed their kickbacks off of, and in most cases, overpaid under some racketeering scheme. Those same private contractors would be cheaper and more efficient if you could hire them like you do any other contractor.

2) Bridges = see point #1.

3) The army is not the barrier between me and those who would sooner see me dead. Geography and my natural, individual right to self-defense and property ownership are. The government and my "fellow Americans" pose a far greater threat than any foreign entity does. The Atlantic and Pacific oceans cover about 3/4 of all national defense against the foreign invader, our vast geography takes care of the remaining 1/4. The army is used to make territory the US chooses to occupy more amenable to continued/further occupation. That has been its primary purpose since the 50s. Since that is a service I neither need nor desire, I wouldn't pay for it voluntarily, so obviously being robbed to pay for it grinds my gears.
