They must really want the mom and pop businesses, local-owned business, restaurant and hospitality industry to have mass layoffs, reduced hours, higher barriers of entry to the workforce.

I have seen articles on how parts of NYC and San Francisco are a sea of vacant storefronts because locally owned small business threw in the towel because they can't make a profit from the high minimum wage, high rent, worthless regulations and high taxes.

The massive chains will stay in business, but the locally-owned business will struggle.

Lots of broken dreams and bankruptcies happen also as small-business in the retail sector will just go out of business because the payroll costs will skyrocket and the owners in many cases will go out of business because they it will be very hard to make a profit in Denver.

The cost of daycare will also skyrocket. Many two-income families will be one-income families and the cost of daycare will skyrocket very quickly.

So many, many people want to move to Denver for the pretty mountain scenery and to get high paying jobs, thereby jacking up the cost of living like crazy. Why be surprised to see this?

Lots of room to spread out. I visited friends who live in Golden -- that's some suburban sprawl...and folks who live in the RHINO section -- definitely not suburban.

I love Denver. Great city, great public transit -- and those mountains.....WOW

Beats the suburban sprawl with no mountain backdrops of a lot of red states.

The one big upside is it works good to keep the cost of living down:

Denver COL: 144.2
Kansas City, MO COL: 91.9

Maybe there will be stories in Denver about businesses fleeing to much cheaper big cities where the minimum wage is still only $7.25.

Yes, to be sure, a lack of scenic wonders does help keep prices down.
