She could have and many thank that she was foolish to not do so.

Let's remember, though, that it was pure arrogance that stopped her from retiring during the Obama presidency. When asked whether she feared a GOP president picking her successor, she arrogantly stated:

Quote:
“I think it’s going to be another Democratic president…. The Democrats do fine in presidential elections; their problem is they can’t get out the vote in the midterm elections.”
Ruth Bader Ginsburg imagines a Trump presidency | MSNBC

She also predicted a Hillary Clinton presidency and that Hillary would have quite a few vacancies on the High Court to fill (same source as above).

Ginsburg bought into the demographic myth that whites could not longer sway elections and that it was now perfectly acceptable to openly and harshly condemn white people (and especially white males) for being white

As for Scalia, let's remember that not only was he just shy of 80 (so not the youngest guy in the group), he was also very unhealthy and a heavy smoker who also liked to indulge in other unhealthy dietary options. Still, you never know when its time for anyone to go.

If Trump replaces RBG, we are going to have to have a serious debate in this country on whether or not same-sex couples married while it was legal will be grandfathered in or if all marriages that aren't one man and one woman will be annulled.
They will also want a debate over them having the religious right to discriminate against anybody they want to when outside the church.

I knew two people who died of cancer. Yes, RBG has the best care in the world but at her age the body can only take so much.

At best I'd give her a 50/50 chance to make it to the end of this year.

What IS sad however is that she ends her tenure in the Supreme Court with one purpose in mind. To outlive the current Republican President. That is certainly a sad and sorry state of life. Instead of enjoying retirement, her vanity won't let her move on so the next generation can take over. It's like another 80 year old in the Democrat party clinging to the hope that he's finally going to be nominated because he outlived all the other contenders.
It has nothing to do with her own vanity - it has to do with her ideals. I'm proud of her and hope she does her damndest and succeeds. Because we all know that hypocrite Moscow Mitch will certainly allow a vote for a SCJ in an election year, THIS time. It is this political climate that she is fighting against.

If she retires soon (within this year) Trump will appoint an outstanding replacement.

Never heard of pancreas cancer not needing further treatment... Radiation isn't typical for cancer that has been completely removed either....

Trump has done nothing to hurt the Gay community.
