Don't Panic: Amazon Burning Is Mostly Farms, Not Forests

So why are there so many fires? "Natural fires in the Amazon are rare, and the majority of these fires were set by farmers preparing Amazon-adjacent farmland for next year's crops and pasture," soberly explains The New York Times. "Much of the land that is burning was not old-growth rain forest, but land that had already been cleared of trees and set for agricultural use."

Brazil’s part of the Amazon lost more than 1,330 square miles of forest cover in the first half of 2019, a 39 percent increase over the same period last year, according to the government agency that tracks deforestation.

They are clearing land to grow more soybeans for the Chinese market. Not sure what you expect anyone to do about this. You certainly can't blame it on Trump or conservatives. Blame it on the Chinese for refusing to work with Trump, and instead choosing to build up Brazil so they can meet the Chinese markets immense demand for soybeans.

Trump is not the cause of the trade war, because the trade war started long before he was president. Trump simply decided it was time to fight back, instead of ignoring it.
