How did we end up labeling ultra-leftists "progressives" in the first place? I'll tell ya: they chose that name for themselves, revealing yet again their arrogance, as a way of saying that they are the ones with advanced thinking who would move this country forward (if only conservatives would get out of their way). In truth, the policies they are peddling in order to make every equal, regardless of ability, intelligence, motivation, decent values, etc. (such as reparations, housing downpayments for blacks, health care for illegals, sanctuary cities, and wipe-out of student loan debt), would bring about economic collapse within a decade.

What we be a more apt label for them? I'll start.

1. EQUALIZERS

I fail to see what's so bad about fighting to get big money out of politics. Who are the major donors of the people you vote for and what do you think they demand in return for their bribes?

You've been duped into all sorts of distractions when at the end of the day, what matters is money and power. That's what progressives seek to address.

By voting for people who try to make it impossible to win any election without huge amounts of money, you are basically calling for the end of democracy and permanent rule by wealth.

You can try to run for Congress in your district and see how much support you'll get. Even if 99% of the people in your district or state support your agenda, you'll get crushed and wont even reach 1% of the votes. Thats because money matters, and you dont have it and the people you support do.

The "Progressives" don't want EQUALITY, they want EQUITY which means equal outcomes through REDISTRIBUTION by the use of big Government. I don't have a catchy name for that. It certainly isn't American. It certainly isn't "fair". It is more like criminal theft.

Trump is the biggest supporter of big government there is. He is basically the prototype of an authoritarian.

That's usually what happens when inequality and despair for the working class gets out of hand. Its a gift to all sorts of authoritarian figures trying to exploit the misery created by the ruling donor class. In fact, its usually also a good breeding ground for radical socialism as extreme income and wealth inequality leads to a high degree of polarization and tension in society.

Agree. That's what I meant by "equalizers" - that everyone ends up the same, or close to it.

As it is, the "equalizers" have made some immigrants more "equal" than American citizens who have paid taxes all their lives. For example, a bi-monthly medical test I should have to monitor a condition is such a fortune (it used to be covered under my good plan, before Obamacare killed it) that I am stretching it out to semi-annually. At the same time, the older, non-English speaking woman (with the same condition) who came here from Vietnam 30 years ago and NEVER had a job, gets Medicaid - and she gets the bi-monthly medical screening, at no charge to her. (I suppose my taxes go towards paying it.)

Maybe we should change the name to "OVER-EQUALIZERS"!

Most of the advanced nations are Progressive when it comes to universal healthcare, paid family leave, child care, affordable education, etc. It’s pretty normal. Those countries have less poverty, better class mobility, better life spans, less stress, etc. they are definitely not all equal in terms of success, they have millionaires, they have successful companies, etc but they also give a damn about all their people, not just the rich.

"Progressive" used to be a euphemism or code for "communist". So being somewhere in the political center I'm suspicious of anyone or anything that is considered "progressive". Now, traditional "liberal" is fine with me. Same with traditional "conservative". But if I hear "nationalist" I immediately think "far right whacko".
