Nobody should. And the natives should be made guardians of it.

But unfortunately this story is gonna end on a quick buck while destroying an important ecosystem.
And it not fair for future generations.

disagree, should all be privately owned and governed by property rights.
If I own a portion of the rainforest and you denude your portion by not using best practices which in turn causes mudslides or water fouling on my land, I sue you for damages to restore my property. You are absolutely and totally held accountable for my verifiable damages.
When a govt or a bunch of natives are made stewards of something, what is their obligation to best practices or future use when they cant be held responsible for damages?

I view protesters in Brazil to be among the most successful of any country, the U.S. being the least successful.

For example, a few years back, when there was an attempt to raise the bus fares in Brazil, the protesters all but brought the country down to its knees. Just over a small bus fare increase. Rioting broke out everywhere.

Not sure about protesting the Amazon destruction. The last time they went on a deforestation drive, a number of products from Brazil were boycotted. I read that a lot of the beef from Brazil goes to China, so will China boycott beef from Brazil? I doubt it!

So its all about property rights over well being of the planet. With this mentality, we deserve extinction. Some things should be off limits.

I cannot even imagine the displaced wildlife. God, it's horrific. Not to mention all of the globe being affected. The Amazon produces 20% of our oxygen.

Amazon Burning Not An Oxygen Problem: 20% Figure At Least Three Times Too High

“biologically and physically impossible for the Amazon to produce 20% of the world’s oxygen.”

==========

As The Amazon Fires Spread, So Did This Unfounded Statistic

the Amazon represents at most approximately 6% of the world’s oxygen production, and it is “biologically and physically impossible for the Amazon to produce 20% of the world’s oxygen.”
