"That's why, according to the AP's account of the National Archives papers, President Truman's advisers prized the geographic advantage Greenland could afford to defend against Soviet strategic bombers that might fly over the Arctic Circle toward targets in North America.
The United States opened negotiations with Denmark about using Greenland, and at one point, the American side proposed buying the island outright for $100 million in gold and the rights to a patch of Alaskan oil.
All this took place in confidence but even then — as now — the idea shocked the Danes. Here's how the AP's W. Dale Nelson described the National Archive documents' account of the exchange:
Secretary of State James Byrnes made the offer to visiting Danish Foreign Minister Gustav Rasmussen in New York on Dec. 14, 1946, according to a telegram from Byrnes to the U.S. Legation in Copenhagen.
After discussing other security arrangements for Greenland, Byrnes said he told Rasmussen that perhaps an outright sale to the United States ″would be the most clean-cut and satisfactory.″
″Our needs ... seemed to come as a shock to Rasmussen, but he did not reject my suggestions flatly and said that he would study a memorandum which I gave him,″ he said."
And, we already bought land from Denmark before, in 1916 spending $25m on the Danish West Indies. Today, they’re known as the United States Virgin Islands.

It would be advantageous for the US to control Greenland, just like it would be advantageous for me to have a steamy affair with Brooke Shields. It's just that in both cases, there are other parties involved whose wishes need to be taken into account.

As for Greenland it largely runs it's own affairs, and has it's own Parliament and Prime Minister, and Greelands national sovereignty is not up for debate.
He wanting to buy Greenland was just grandstanding BS, Just for attention and he got it. In the midst to detract from other news, thats how he works. What country or island will he try next.
We blew our chance to buy Cuba, over a century ago, it was a fair price, but we moved on to other things. Imagine Cuba being our 51st state!
Trump, with no environmental conscience, would soon turn Greenland into Blackland.
The idea of buying Greenland is not a bad one, that is not the problem here. The problem is how Trump went about it. For all his bluster and bragging about being a deal maker he sure screwed the pooch on this one. He needed to woo the Danes, and the people of Greenland, not bully them. In any event, he has left such a bad taste in their mouths about the US that it will be another 70 years before we can approach them again. By that time the ice will have all melted and it will be worth a lot more.

The only problem is Trump Derangement Syndrome. It comes from the bleating sheep who spend day after day complaining about Trump because the MSM told them to. Nothing more. Look how long they went on about the Russians. Only to be back slapped in the face over the lies.
If Trump got a deal on Greenland they'd complain. If Trump didn't get a deal on Greenland, they'd complain. They are bleating about the Treaty of Versailles, flying frogs, and Trump's toes. It's day after day after day.

From what I'm seeing, alot of his supporters really want him to buy Greenland, or they seem to want that.
