It's funny, the deranged Trump haters have been saying Trump is going to cut Social Security, and Medicare for almost 3 years now.

The deranged just keep lying, but nobody believes them.

Why won't Trump and the GOP cut those things?

They have no right to exist.

First of all, forget Medicare, because if Dems win, that'll be toast--Medicare will have to be ABOLISHED to establish Medicaid/Obamacare for All Including Seniors (and Their Pockets) Who HAD Been Exempt From Obamacare.

As for SS, GWB was going to cut it per the Dems' predictions and, before that, Bush dad. Ho-hum. No cuts ensued. And the only one who DID save SS, was Reagan, with his FRA reforms.

And reforming is what Trump wants to do. And should do. GWB tried to partially privatize it for future beneficiaries--as a CHOICE, and was shot down.

So your thread title AND Yahoo's headline is incorrect, and isn't even reflected in Yahoo's article. Trump said no such thing, and the last thing he DID say was that he was NOT open to "cutting benefits, as some Republicans are." And still are, according to that article.

Your scare tactics aren't going to work. But those in YOUR generation--future beneficiaries may see, like ours did, a gradual increase in FRA, increased contributions, a higher cap, privatization, or some combination of those.

But Grandma still hasn't been pushed off the cliff by [insert name of any Republican president going back 30 years], and there will be NO CUTS to current beneficiaries.

SS will be SAVED, through reforms for future retirees, by yet another REPUBLICAN administration.

People are planning their entire futures around SS. This would ensure Trump loses and probably the GOP in Congress too.

Those Republicans seem to forget that not everyone gets the pension and retirement benefits that they do. And that is an idea. Why don't we cut the pensions of those in Congress before cutting SS?

Put away those MSNBC flash cards, and educate yourself.

Not sure if you actually told the truth in there at all. Stopped reading after the first sentence since it was a debunked right wing talking point

Cutting these programs has always been a Republican two step process, ever since the Reagan Administration when, (Ahem), Larry Kudlow was cooking up Reagan's economic policy.

The policy is called "starve the beast".

Starve the beast starts with a giant tax cut that gives the people's money to run the government to a very small percentage of the population.
This balloons the deficit to noticeably intolerable levels.
Republicans immediately pivot to bringing down the deficit, which they accelerated with their tax cuts in the first place, by advocating a period of reigning in social programs.

They have always felt that if they gave away enough of the tax payers money and borrowed heavily they could balloon the deficit to such an intolerable amount that the voters would accept losing their entitlements to bring the deficit down to a manageable level.

Once the deficit is down again, the republicans will provide the rich with another round of massive tax cuts and strangle the federal government some more.

The process is a big continuous loop of tax cuts and accompanying deficit reduction.

Physically, the analogy would be the water swirling around your toilet after you just flushed it.

Seems the only argument among many voters is "Whose ox get's gored." The morality of dismantling various social safety nets in the richest nation on the planet doesn't seem to be a factor in the process of discussion.

In fact, it was Reagan who SAVED Social Security, via prescient reforms to the final retirement age.

And you clearly subscribe to the AOC brand of economics. Newsflash: The deficit has NADA to do with Social Security:
