Absolutely! Government retirees are living the high life. Many of them "retire" and then right back to the same job as a contractor - at a rate 2x their previous annual salary. So a person earning $100,000 retires at $70,000, and then earns $200,000 as a contractor. Total income for the same work: $270,000.
Or, more commonly, they take their retirement "salary" at $70,000 and then go back to their role as a contractor just 2 days a week for $80000. They have just increased their income from $100,000 for FT government work to $150,000 for 2 days a week.
I know because they've been at the pool all summer - laughing about it.
So, what is the problem? Do you have the education, experience , and skill-set to take those jobs? If so, apply!
I love how people are so bitter and jealous of others.
The contractor can pay whatever they feel like paying. Anyone can go to USAJOBS and apply for a government position. Then you, too, can live “the high life” as you call it.
Government employee pensions at all levels are the real budget killers - make them go away and put them into social security like the rest of us. any so called double dippers can be shot at sunrise. Problem solved.
You obviously don't know what you are talking about because most federal employees are on a different retirement system. Saying they need shot at sunrise is borderline threatening and psychotic.
No problem. Republicans will see that these cuts only hurt younger workers. The boomers have never shown the slightest hesitation to put the costs and consequences of their greed on the backs of their children and grandchildren.
Boomers are the first generation who have paid into SS AND Medicare their entire working lives. Their contributions created the benefits used by their parents’ generation.
A portion of Medicare benefits have been funded by general revenues all along.
The first Social Security beneficiary paid a total of $24.75 in Payroll Taxes between 1937-9. She received $22,888.92 in lifetime benefits.
The people who will lose out -- and should lose out - with Social Security are the rich. SS shouldn't be cut for the poorest people. It should be cut for the people who get on cruise ships and live the great life in the golden years - and still collect full benefits. SS taxes are also going to have to be raised.
Sorry folks - there's no free lunch.
So you want to turn Medicare and ss into another welfare program?
Great. Everyone pays in and everyone benefits, currently
Abolish Ponzi Insecurity and refund everyone's contributions to the penny. Then abolish Medicare and Medicaid, then every single handout--food stamps, everything.
I wonder how many people actually look at the budget. These programs are tiny compared to the overall budget. I snicker in disgust whenever anyone goes after the National Endowment for the Arts. Because, yah, that is going to balance the budget.
Sounda good to me.... let these maga retirees/boomers pay for the deficits from billionaire and corporate tax cuts with cuts to their benefits. This Gen Xer never planned on seeing Medicare or SS when he retired anyways
Something tells me trump won't be campaigning on this though
Let's hear it for Gen X - the only generation that actually matters. With any luck, the Millennials will kick Gen X to the curb as well and Gen X can join the growing ranks of the nation's homeless.
America is the richest country in the world and we cant even afford to provide a basic standard of living to our seniors? Instead trillions in tax breaks for the ruling donor class is a priority.
What a disgrace. Never any money for a decent public safety net for seniors, the disabled, the sick and the poor, but always money for tax breaks, military spending and more prisons.
We pretty much have an open wallet when it comes to the military and expensive wars.
You never ever see the politicians talk about how much the wars costs.
But when it comes to caring for the disabled, maimed and mentally ill coming back from these wars, all of a sudden costs matter.

First, you need to learn a very basic fact, deficits ONLY come from spending.
