Trump has the same big money donors as the GOP. The idea that Trump is "self-financing" and independent of the GOP machine is laughable.

Who do you vote for Congress, and who are their major donors?

I sympathize with your feelings about this but that train left a long time ago.

The USA has nothing on China in the STEM fields. As Trump supporters (and it appears most current Republicans these days) disdain higher education the Chinese have surpassed the USA in the number of engineering graduates. It has been that way for a long time now, ultimately they don't need our designs.

These days, American and European companies do not have to design products for Chinese factories to make, the Chinese manufacturers just as often call upon the US companies with products of their own design, and propose a marketing deal.

And yes, there is technology theft. The Chinese are constantly stealing from one another, of course they will steal from foreign companies, the foreign companies send their plans over and that's that. It's their own damned fault.

Nevertheless, American companies know the risks, but the profit margins are so attractive they accept that as a cost of doing business. Now our farmers have to literally take it on the chin for many past bad decisions in the board rooms of major global corporations.

Trump is blinking and backing away. When it all ends, nothing of substance will change. Then it will be up to the next admin to get us back in TPP and do things the right way.

China itself is increasingly the target of industrial espionage. Huawei etc. are constantly being attacked by organizations from the US, Britain, France, Israel and others.

They have plenty to defend themselves militarily. China is not Afghanistan or Iraq.
