I disagree that "both parties" intentionally did anything of the sort.

I challenge anyone here to read "The Great Reckoning" and various other books on the downfall of American industry.

Short and sweet it was driven by bean-counters who walled themselves off from the real world in giant office buildings and NEVER got anywhere near workers or the factory.

If there is/was a single person responsible for this - the name will ring a Bell - it is a person with the name of Robert McNamara. YES, the same bean-counter who then switched to "body counts" as his numerical efforts.

"In 1946, Tex Thornton, a colonel under whom McNamara had served, put together a group of former officers from the Office of Statistical Control to go into business together"

These were the so-called "Whiz Kids" who cared not for humans, cars, the USA or anything else. ALL the power went to paperwork...and to profits.

The results were evident in everything we have seen. The companies run by this type of person saw ZERO excitement in the product. They could care less about innovation or updating manufacturing. It was all about squeezing the numbers.

This set the foundation for lack of investment...for example, American car companies didn't do FWD because it would have cost more. They'd rather add some chrome to the old model and then sell it as a new model.

This resulted in poor quality and value all the way through. When the Japanese cars - reliable and better MPG and FWD, came to the USA, many customers knew the difference. Even the Big 3 knew the difference and started sourcing parts and partnerships with the foreign firms. At that point it was already over...we were followers, not leaders.

American Greed and Conservatism (lack of risk taking, lack of long term planning) is what got us into this mess. After that, the dominoes just fell one by one. The Auto worker of the 1970's didn't appreciate their job and the benefits and pay the Unions had fought for...they took it for granted. Of course, workers were not appreciated by the likes of McNamara...he never met one!

Contrast that with, for example, German industry where the founders and families that own many firms take pride in what they do - multi-generational. They aren't looking for an "exit strategy" nor to make an instant billion. They are looking to make a better product.

The blame goes to AMERICA and nowhere else. The "system" must change...and, in fact, some of it is changing. You now have some companies that take risks...and some that appreciate Labor....and such.

But we still do not have grand plans. We don't do big things anymore because most of you would rather claim a "victory" when Trump or you trolls someone.

You get exactly what you deserve.

Being that China has a communist-leaning government, what is the TL;DR of how IP works in that country?

Aside from the USA, China is the 2nd most economically strong country. President Trump is 100% on target to not play into their hands and to do everything he can to stop China from continually ripping us off.

If nothing is done, China may very well lead the world and that is nothing any of us should ever want to occur.

Right now, China is the #1 polluter of the ocean, you can view the list yourself:

Do you want to leave under communist rule by a country that cares nothing for the environment?

We are damn lucky to have President Trump in office and he needs to be re-elected next next!

Did china violate your human Rights? They didnít do anything to me. As far as intellectual rights, did you get your patent stolen by the Chinese? If you want to do business in China and you have a patented property. The Chinese say you must share your patent in order to do business with them.... you have a choice donít you? Did someone force you to go to do business in china? Wasnít it your choice? So you want to play with china, then play by their rule. Or, donít play with them. Did someone put a gun to your head forcing you to trade or do business with china? Why are you complaining?

China pollutes but weíve been the worst polluter for decades......learn your history. Ripping us off? Thatís only because our companies want to do business with them. They donít have to. As for Chinese goods, nobody is forcing you to buy any Chinese goods.....you want to because they are good and cheap. Nobody is forcing you to buy Chinese goods.
